About me and my therapy practice

You have already taken a courageous step towards addressing something in your life which feels too big to ignore. Helping another person can feel natural; asking for help for yourself can feel a lot harder to do. There may be a burden you have borne for a long time, or it may have come into your life recently but you have recognised your need and allowed yourself to search for support while you explore what is causing your emotional distress.

My aim is to build a supportive and trusting working relationship with you where it feels safe to explore your feelings, and examine what you know so that you can make your own decisions on how to act in the future. Something needs to change and there has to be some rebuilding,  so that life improves for you.

My practice

I work with a number of issues. Some clients are living with a serious illness or have suffered a bereavement. Others have come to rebuild their self-confidence, and improve their mental health.  I also have a particular interest in working with parents with autistic children.

If you want to find out more, then you can contact me to set up an initial session when you can talk about what you want to get out of counselling and also decide if I am offering what you are looking for. if you are happy to continue then we can set up a second session and arrange the details.

i have a standard fee, but I am  happy to discuss and adjust this in the light of individual circumstances.

Practice description

Currently, I work with zoom, on the telephone, and face to face in Woodcote.

I qualified as a Person-centred counsellor in 2013 and I am also trained to use Person-centred creative skills as a practitioner member of APCCA (apcca.org.uk). If you find it hard to put thoughts and feelings into words I can offer this as an alternative way of working, if you want to. I also have a qualification in Understanding Autism. Sessions are for 50 minutes, and if you find sitting still for this length of time is a challenge, then creative work might also help you.   I have worked in various charities with bereavement, coping with cancer, LGBTQ issues, and sexual abuse.

You may be disheartened because you can’t see a way through.  If you feel strongly that you want to make changes because being so stuck is making you unhappy then within a safe listening relationship you will get the opportunity to talk about this and experience acceptance of your point of view, respect and support.  This can restore your confidence, open your perspective and re-balance your ideas about who you are. You can learn to give yourself the time and attention needed for your personal fulfillment.

My first session

During my first session, which is usually by zoom or phone, I will ask for some personal details and listen while you outline what has brought you to me. You probably know what you are looking for as regards a therapist and will need to ask me questions too. It is a time for you to weigh up whether to embark upon therapy with me. We can also talk about fees, and how often you want a session, so therefore this first session is free. Standard sessions will be 50 minutes.
