About me and my therapy practice

Perhaps  you're having trouble making sense of things at the moment...You may feel anxious or low, disconnected from yourself or others, weighed down by grief or ongoing stress, or sensing that something inside feels 鈥渘ot quite right鈥 without knowing why. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck or emotionally stretched. Carrying more than they realise.

My approach is grounded in honesty, care and respect. I listen closely and with curiosity, giving you the time and space to explore your inner world at a pace that feels manageable.

This is a gentle invitation to a calm, steady space where you can speak openly and begin to make sense of what you鈥檙e carrying. Many clients prefer in person sessions which I carry out from my practice in Beckenham however I do offer some online session availability.

My work is grounded in the belief that therapy is not about fixing or diagnosing, but about creating the conditions in which understanding can develop. I see therapy as a collaborative process, shaped by the individual rather than a single method or model.

I work integratively, drawing on different therapeutic approaches depending on what feels most appropriate and supportive. For some people, this means focusing on a specific difficulty in the present. For others, it involves exploring deeper emotional patterns, past experiences and relational themes that continue to influence how they feel and relate to others.

Together, we create a thoughtful, non-judgemental space. One where understanding can grow gently, and where you can begin to feel more grounded and connected over time.

Practice description

The Room You鈥檙e In庐 is my psychotherapy practice, shaped by more than twenty years of clinical experience. I offer psychotherapy and counselling in Beckenham and online across South London, Bromley, Kent (and beyond).

I have spent over twenty years working with people who are trying to make sense of their inner world: whether they are facing something specific in the present or carrying experiences and emotional patterns that have developed over time. Through this work, I have seen how important it is to have a space where experiences can be spoken and understood without pressure to explain, justify or make sense of everything at once.

Clients often tell me they value the calm, steady nature of our work together and the sense of being genuinely heard and understood.

How long does therapy last?

The length of therapy varies depending on what you bring and what feels most helpful.

After the initial assessment, therapy is offered in six-week blocks, with weekly 50-minute sessions held at a regular agreed time. Working in six-week blocks provides a clear sense of structure and containment, helping the process feel manageable rather than open-ended or overwhelming.

Some people come with a specific difficulty in the present, while others arrive with longer-standing or more complex experiences, emotional patterns or relational difficulties. Whether the work is more suited to counselling or psychotherapy is something we explore together during the initial assessment, rather than something you need to decide in advance.

I am fully insured and a qualified member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (M麻豆原创).

My approach is calm, relational and thoughtful - offering a grounded, confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels manageable.

My first session

Starting therapy often brings up practical questions, as well as uncertainty about what to expect. The answers below are intended to offer clarity and reassurance. If something you鈥檙e wondering about isn鈥檛 covered here, you鈥檙e very welcome to get in touch.

What can I expect from the first session?

The first session is an assessment and is simply how I begin the therapeutic process. It offers a calm, confidential space where we talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you are finding difficult at the moment.

This meeting allows me to listen carefully and understand your experience from your point of view. It also gives us both an opportunity to consider whether counselling or psychotherapy feels appropriate and whether we may be a good fit to work together.

The assessment is a two-way process. You can use this time to get a sense of me and the therapeutic space. We also talk about what the work might involve.

Do I need to know what I want to talk about before I start?

No. Many people worry that they won鈥檛 know what to say or where to begin. This is very common, especially if you haven鈥檛 had a space like this before.

Therapy does not require you to arrive with everything worked out or organised. Some people begin by talking about what has been on their mind recently, while others start with something small or simply with how it feels to be sitting there. Often, once the session begins, what needs attention naturally starts to surface.

There is no right or wrong way to begin. We take things one step at a time.

Sessions are charged at 拢80 per weekly fifty-minute session, for both in-person and online work.

The initial assessment session is charged at the same rate and is a standalone session, with no obligation to continue.

If you are a therapist in training and would like to discuss fees, you are welcome to contact me directly.
