About me and my therapy practice

Are you finding it difficult to face the day with stress and anxiety bubbling under the surface? Where life feels like one struggle after another and you can’t see a way forward. You may notice how much stress is impacting on many areas of your life such as your studies, at work, in your relationships, your health, physical long-term condition or neurodiversity (diagnosed or not). You find managing daily routines more difficult, are overwhelming and exhausting.

I am passionate about helping you face current challenges so that you can start to make sense of the things that feel impossible to change right now. To help reduce the stuckness you are feeling, within yourself and in your environment, and for you to begin to see that change is possible. Taking this step, in looking for a therapist, while daunting, is a courageous step and you have already started the process for wanting change in your life.

I can help you look at what’s feeding into your stress and worries that may be causing the overwhelm, and help you learn to press the pause button to put healthier strategies in place while we unpick the underlying causes. We will look at what is happening in the present – difficult life challenges, difficult transitions, a traumatic event, difficulties within relationships both in your personal life and at work, other work challenges, grief, bereavement or complicated loss. We can also look further back into your past, to see how difficult childhood experiences and negative core beliefs may be impacting your present and feeding into your stress, anxiety or low mood.

Practice description

I am an Integrative Therapist with 17 years of experience working with young people, adults and older adults. This means I draw on a variety of theoretical approaches to best suit your needs. To explain this simply, we can give space to the here and now and immediate challenges you are facing and look at ways to support you put better strategies in place, tapping into your existing strengths to help unpick the anxiety.

We can go further into past experiences and patterns that are still impacting you in the present, to help you release past traumas,  difficulties within your life and negative core beliefs that are holding you back.

I focus on safety, a contained environment and a pace that works for you, as anxiety and overwhelm can make everything feel challenging. I use a number of techniques to reinforce safety and grounding such as using Polyvagal Theory and use of mindfulness and other grounding exercises. I can also work creatively, when words are not enough.

I draw on my Counselling Training and ongoing Continued Professional Development which includes Humanistic, Gestalt (including parts work), Psychodynamic, CBT, Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Inner Child work, Neurodiverse Aware Counselling, Creative Counselling and my Psychology degree.

I have worked in a variety of settings including the NHS, Disability Charity, Carers Charity, trauma-impacted community, Employee Assistance Programme for Aviva, Bupa and Macmillan Cancer Support, a National Children's Mental Health Charity, in schools and in Private Practice. I have also worked previously in other roles within conservation, Refugee and Asylum Seekers organisations, Freedom From Torture and in the Corporate Sector.
