I offer counselling in nature (eco-psychotherapy) sessions on Mondays at Hermitage of Braid.
I also off more traditional indoor counselling on Tuesdays (please see separate listing).
I can also work outdoors in Holyrood Park on Tuesdays.
I work both short and longer term and we can discuss what would be most helpful for you.
About me and my therapy practice
Often we don’t feel able to live as we would like to. We might feel stuck or anxious. We might have experiences that feel hard to cope with, think about or process. Counselling in nature can help us to feel differently about these things.
I offer accepting and collaborative therapy, both indoors and outdoor eco-psychotherapy, to explore what is going on for you, whatever that might be, and to help you find a way through.
I am an experienced and accredited counsellor based in Edinburgh. I am trained between person-centred and psychodynamic approaches and draw on both of these in how I work. This might mean coming closer to what you are really feeling in the moment, including the bits you don’t quite understand. This might connect you with your past experience and how it affects you today.
I find this can be a creative process, being open to things about ourselves we weren't aware of before and finding ways to make sense of them.
Working outdoors, the natural environment is part of the work. This allows us to be part of something bigger than ourselves, and can bring different awareness and connections than being indoors.
I work interactively – this is something we are doing together. I work with an awareness that all parts of ourselves are connected, though they often get separated. For me, this means paying attention to our bodies, minds and emotions. It means being aware of our relationships, social context and environment. We may or may not talk about these things, but I believe they are present.
I have worked extensively with students and am experienced in helping people navigate the wide range of issues related to student life. I also on the teaching team in the counselling training department at Edinburgh University.
I have a background in mental health Collective Advocacy, facilitating projects in which people with lived experience of mental health difficulties (specifically psychosis and personality disorder diagnosis) could have a stronger voice and work for change.
Practice description
Being outdoors is an opportunity to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Nature is always there, and we are always a part of it, but by doing therapy outdoors we more explicitly allow ourselves to be part of the wider web of nature.
The sensory experience of being outdoors can help us notice our bodies, so our physical senses are included as part of the therapy session. Moving and walking can also help us process our thoughts and feelings in different ways to when we are sitting still.
Working outdoors may be similar to working indoors – two humans talking, one listening more, trying to be of help to the other. Or the environment may have more of a role, perhaps sparking connections, a line of thinking or feeling.
As with the way I work indoors, none of this is planned or mapped out. Instead, we begin and follow the thread of your process to see what emerges. Sometimes being outdoors can make it easier to notice and follow these intuitive moments. The environment may spark connections, a line of thinking or feeling. I believe that making space for these unexpected connections is where the power of therapy lies.
The natural environment can help us to digest and make sense of our uncertainties, or to let them be. As a therapist, I work with you to process what you don’t understand, and I see the natural environment as an ally in that.

Practice description
I am available for counselling sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays.
On Tuesday, I work in Edinburgh from a counselling room near Meadowbank, on the edge of Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat. This is a flat that has been adapted into counselling rooms and has a relaxed and quiet feel. I am also able to offer sessions online or by telephone when required.
I also offer outdoor counselling in nature (eco-psychotherapy) on Mondays at Hermitage of Braid (please see my separate listing). I can also work outdoors on a Tuesday in Holyrood Park.
If you are interested in working with me as your counsellor, please get in touch.
We would arrange an initial session to discuss your situation and what therapy with me might be like.
Please note there are stairs to my counselling room so unfortunately I am not able to provide disabled access. I can work online or by phone where required.
I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹Դ´) and was awarded their accreditation for experienced practitioners in 2019. I work by their ethical standards.

If we decide to work together, sessions are once a week, for 50 minutes.
