About me and my therapy practice

For over 35 years Rockhaven Therapy has provided residential and face-to-face counselling, life-coaching and supervision. Roger offers a discreet, sensitive approach, giving you the opportunity to talk confidentially in a safe environment with an experienced practitioner.

I will listen to you, the client, and endeavour to provide a service tailored to meet your needs, - this now includes working online.

With a career in the music industry as a producer, performer and qualified music teacher (Royal Schools of Music) I also have the advantages of being dyslexic, this includes thinking outside of the box.  Whilst providing traditional person-centred counselling, creative approaches are available for individuals, couples, families and groups.

As an example of my work, traumatised by two years of torture and unable to find the words to talk about their experiences, I offered creative ways for the client to express past events and their feelings. This included talking about what they had seen on television, meditation, having a joke, working with a sand tray... After some months - that included powerful silences - they started to write down what was really concerning them.

Two years later their story was published as 'Time to Tell' - by Rockhaven Books Exeter. Roger Helyar FÂ鶹ԭ´´, FNCPS. FNCIP

About me and my therapy practice

In 1999 I started providing supervision for student counsellors. Some are still with me 15 to 20 years

Many have gone on to developed their own skills to become senior practitioners, trainers, and supervisors.

I get great pleasure from the work I do as a supervisor working with a diverse range of practitioners and students.

I don't pretend to be an academic but a creative dyslexic, prepared to think and explore with you outside of the box.

An experienced educationalist qualified with the Royal Schools of Music as a teacher.

For my work as a counsellor, particularly with those disadvantaged, neuro diverse and struggling with life, I received a Â鶹ԭ´´ fellowship in 2015.

Availability: Cranbrook Exeter; Dawlish; face to face; online; text and phone.
