About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Gareth Vaughan, a Â鶹ԭ´´ Accredited Counsellor with over 15 years of experience supporting people through life’s challenges. I offer a calm, safe and confidential space where you can talk openly about how you’re feeling and what’s on your mind, without fear of judgment.

I work using an integrative approach, which means I see every person as unique. Together, we’ll use the methods that best suit your needs, so that therapy feels personal and meaningful to you. My aim is to help you feel stronger, more resilient and better equipped to manage both current and future challenges.

I believe counselling works best when it’s grounded in warmth, understanding and acceptance. Building this kind of relationship allows us to explore your difficulties at your pace, and to find ways forward that feel right for you.

Practice description

I work using an integrative approach, which means I adapt the therapy to suit your individual needs. My aim is to help you feel more resilient, supported and able to manage both current and future changes in your life.

I have experience supporting people through a wide range of issues, including:

Difficult life events such as bereavement and relationship challenges

Emotional struggles like stress, anxiety and depression

Health-related concerns including the emotional impact of cancer and chronic illness

Over the years, I’ve worked within an NHS IAPT counselling service focusing on depression and anxiety, a hospice and specialist bereavement service, an NHS cancer care team, and a university counselling setting.

I believe counselling should be grounded in warmth, acceptance and genuine care. By working together in this way, we can explore what’s troubling you and find a way forward that feels right for you.

My first session

At our first session, we’ll talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to focus on. We can also discuss how often you’d like sessions and how many you feel might be helpful.

Counselling is your space, so it’s important that it feels right for you. Throughout our work together, we’ll regularly review how things are going to make sure you’re getting the most out of the sessions.

I am a Â鶹ԭ´´ Accredited Counsellor and hold a British Psychological Society approved SDS Accreditation in Clinical Supervision (CSAccred. AAC).

I follow Proctor’s 3 Function Interactive Model in my supervision practice. I believe supervision should encourage professional growth and self-awareness, promote safety for both counsellor and client, and enhance the quality of your work.

I work within the Â鶹ԭ´´ Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

Areas I have experience in are Cancer, bereavement and loss, depression, anxiety, stress, panic, LGBTQ+, and relationships issues including abuse.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact me on 07544 518276

My first session

In our first session together, we’ll take time to get to know each other and explore what you need from supervision. We will:

Discuss your current practice – including your client work, settings, and any areas of focus or challenge.

Clarify expectations – what you would like from supervision and what I can offer.

Agree on practical details – frequency, length of sessions, and preferred format (in-person or online).

Review ethical considerations – including confidentiality, safeguarding, and working within the Â鶹ԭ´´ Ethical Framework.

Set goals – such as developing confidence, managing risk, self-care, and enhancing your professional growth.

This initial session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide whether my approach feels like the right fit for you.
