About me and my therapy practice
Hello and Welcome. I know it can be confusing to scroll through so many profiles — but what matters most is finding someone you can connect with.
I’m Lorna, and I work with young people aged 18 and over and adults. Over 12 years into my career, I have worked in a variety of settings, including schools, the NHS, and for a charity, both as a therapist and leading the clinical team and now focus solely on private practice where I specialise in unresolved childhood trauma, attachment, grief and loss, Anxiety, Depression, stress, burnout, relationship issues and identity.
Feelings that were once suppressed for survival can unconsciously shape our beliefs and often show up as more recognisable symptoms. It may be that you’ve reached a point you want help because there is an obvious trigger: a bereavement, a relationship ending, or a sudden change in circumstances. Or it maybe you’re gradually becoming aware you feel stuck, defensive, easily triggered, unable to break familiar cycles of low mood and self-criticism, not feeling good enough, putting things off and don’t know how to break out of the cycle.
If any of this resonates, I’d like to help. Please reach out — I’d be glad to hear from you.
Practice description
I am a humanistic integrative therapist. My work is person-centred with an attachment focus, and I operate from a trauma-informed perspective.
Why ?
Our earliest ‘attachment’ relationships form our patterns of relating to both ourselves and others, creating an internal ‘working model’ which we hold of the world, people and events in it.
Trauma is both what did happen and what didn’t – for instance, a lack of some kind, emotionally or developmentally.
The focus here isn’t so much on what happened to us, but on what happened inside us as a result.
So I work with clients to explore what's happening beneath the surface to unlock unconscious beliefs, patterns and behaviours which keep us in repeating cycles. This isn’t about blame, it's about cultivating a curiosity to examine beliefs, experience feelings, and reclaim parts of yourself which may have had to shut down in the past to ‘cope’ or ‘survive’. It’s a process of earning your own security and developing freedom within, deepening your emotional capacity, and expanding your emotional literacy and confidence to navigate whatever life has in store.
We can’t control what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond.
My practice is located in West Bridgford, and I offer sessions both in person and online, Monday to Wednesday. Discounts are available for trainees and students for daytime appointments before 4 pm.
My first session
I offer a half-price initial consultation to enable you to decide if I am the right therapist for you and for me to assess whether I have the right skills to support you.
If we decide to work together, sessions are weekly and can either be for a fixed number or open-ended for longer-term work.
