About me and my therapy practice

Why therapy?

It's not always easy to talk about what is bothering us. You may be looking for support for something that has been worrying you for a while or because of a current upset, such as relationship difficulties or a life change.

What I can help with

I specialise in helping to understand how we relate to other people. You may be in a relationship with someone that doesn’t feel quite right or with a family member where there has been a long-standing difficulty. Our relationships with people in our lives can sometimes make us feel unsettled. When things don’t feel right, we can often feel depressed, anxious or experience panic attacks.

How does it work

I offer a safe and supportive space on a regular basis which allows you the time to explore some of the things that are causing you distress and/or worry. We all live busy lives, and it can often be hard to find the time to STOP and reflect. I can help you identify the issues that can sometimes make us feel stuck and unable to move on in life. Learning from our experiences enables us to do things differently, like experimenting with how say ‘NO’, establishing boundaries in our relationships, and therefore looking after ourselves better. This in turn makes us feel stronger, more empowered and gain a greater sense of who we are.

Practice description

I am a professionally qualified therapist with over 20 years of experience working in Brighton and Hove. I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MÂ鶹ԭ´´), which means I work within the Â鶹ԭ´´'s Ethical Framework. I also hold professional insurance.

I have a background in psychology and in mental health, working in the fields of trauma and mental health support, alongside working as a psychotherapist. I work in private practice and have worked in a school and university settings.

I offer short and long term counselling to individuals.

My first session

I offer a free initial session, which will last up to 30 minutes and could be in person, over the phone or online. This allows you to get a feel for how I work, and it helps me understand a bit about you to ensure I'm offering a suitable type of therapy for your needs.

What to expect in your first session

I work face to face at a private and professional Psychotherapy Clinic as well as online. The space I hold is in a private and safe and confidential setting. Once we have agreed a time to meet, you will be invited to an initial consultation of up to 30 minutes in person or online. This enables me to start to get to know you and find out about why you have decided to explore therapy. I have some standard questions that help me to understand your requirements, and you will have time to ask me about the way I work and what to expect. You will then be able to reflect on whether you would like to continue to work with me which you can let me know in the session or afterwards.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully trained Supervisor based in the Brighton, Lewes and wider Sussex areas. I offer online sessions so I am able to work with you wherever you live.

I offer Supervision for organisations/individuals in need of Clinical Supervision. I have long term experience of the charitable sector in positions of leadership and management. I offer support for work related stress and other workplace related issues and on-going support and supervision for staff across all organisational levels, including managers, chief executives as well as self-employed people.

My approach to Supervision is to offer a dual purpose - to provide a safe and containing space and to be able to challenge counsellors/practitioners to create an opportunity for reflection and understanding. Supervision should be a creative and mutative space for Supervisor and Supervisee.

I am a psychologist by training with a background in mental health. I have worked in the voluntary sector myself for over twenty years for organisations that work with individuals experiencing a range of issues including specifically mental health.

I have worked as a therapist for 20 years in a school, University counselling service and private setting.

Please do contact me if you would like to discuss your Supervision requirements.
