Availability
I maintain a small private practice in Cumbria and nationally online but can normally offer an initial free 30-minutes consultation (see 'My "First Session') within 7 days of you contacting me.
Once we have agreed to work together, I will send you a copy of my client contract, which provides details about agreements we need to make regarding appointments, times, payment arrangements etc; and most importantly, confidentiality.
My appointment times can be very flexible, Monday through Sunday, daytimes (10.30am to 6pm inclusively) only.
If/when I'm working elsewhere or away, my email or phone will give details in response to your call.
About me and my therapy practice
Personal:
Born in the UK of working class parents, I was brought up in a Hindu Bengali Brahmin family, which valued education (even for girls!), culture, justice, faith and an open mind to make sense of the world. Now in my 50s, with an earlier career as a professional electrical engineer, I've learned a lot more about life ... and about me too.
Professional:
I've been a Consultant Integrative Psychotherapist for over 26 years; I'm a Â鶹Դ´ Accredited therapist and a Senior Accredited Clinical Supervisor (for other therapists) working with individuals and couples face to face and online (Using Zoom, Teams and WhatsApp video and audio).
I am a critical incident de-briefer, on-call to companies whose staff have suffered workplace trauma, where I support their recovery through processing and building stability to reduce the impact & potential for re-traumatisation.
And a human relations psycho-educator (HE, corporate and public sector settings), media expert commentator, researcher and published writer.
My other work roles are:
- Executive Life Coach, where I enter the corporate world, which can be a challenging environment. Competing priorities can adversely impact health and stress can create complications physically, emotionally and psychologically that makes living harder. I support senior executives to learn how to navigate life better (and potentially longer).
- Polarity Therapist, where I work with the human energy system through a powerful body-work process. The fundamental component I work with is a person's vital force that is akin to electricity, and what Freud and Jung called the libido. It is the very energy that keeps us alive. It also manifests as one's vitality which can vary in its intensity depending on many factors including life circumstances, stress, health conditions, work and home demands etc.. During a polarity session, I seek to enhance this vital force, all through the power of touch and technique (whilst the client remains fully clothed).
Practice description
The essence of my work is to enable each client to explore and understand their present situation more insightfully, and to facilitate their process of change towards a healthier way of being.
My practice room:
Set within a nature-filled coastal location, my practice room provides a secure, private and calm environment for work to take place.
My first step with a new client is to establish a safe and boundaried working relationship, which holds the potential for learning, healing and growth.
My online room:
I work from my practice room using Zoom, Teams and WhatsApp enabling versatility and accessibility.
My working model:
I am a relational-based psychotherapist, where I help to facilitate a client's increase in their self-awareness, understanding and choices.
Based on Humanistic principles and practice, coupled with my Master's training in Jungian depth psychology, attachment theory, neuroscience and the mind-body connection.
As an integrative practitioner, I also draw upon CBT and Transactional Analysis when appropriate.
Much of my work uses Karpman's Drama Triangle to help clients step away from dysfunctional relationships and into healthier, clearer adult ones.
I also integrate my yoga-mindfulness teaching experience.(www.praxis-yoga.com).
My specialism:
Working with clients experiencing:
- Mid-life difficulties when facing major changes and transitions in their personal or work lives (e.g. loss of role, or health; adjusting to success, or public exposure; the consequences of menopause, etc).
- Trauma: early-life, abuse and developmental
- Difficult early-life relationship with mother and impact on adult life
- Spiritual disconnection: Loss of meaning in life
- End of life - finding meaning/preparing for ending
My principal research activity:
Focuses on menopause, its whole-body effects, life-style impacts, including detrimental career outcomes; and developing new, healthier and more positive ways of responding to this inescapable change as an opportunity to grow and embody wisdom.
My first session
I offer an initial free 30-minutes consultation, by phone or video call: this gives you the opportunity to describe what help you're seeking and ask any questions about my experience, training or how I would work with you... so that you can gain some sense of my suitability for your needs.
If we agree to work together: I will explain the purpose of the client contract and questionnaire, and arrange for copies to be sent to you, in advance of our first full session so that you can take time to respond to them.
Future sessions will be 50 minutes long: and, after the first one, I will invite you to choose a small number of sessions to commit to attending before we then review how you've experienced them, and how you want to proceed.
