About me and my therapy practice
Hi I’m Alison
Sometimes life can feel overwhelming and confusing or like you have lost touch with yourself and are not sure how to cope with a situation.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone. I offer a safe, down-to-earth space to bring whatever is on your mind and help you figure a way through.
Deciding to begin counselling can be a scary choice and it takes courage to make the first step, getting in touch. Getting in touch is often the hardest part.
My approach is respectful and caring, down-to-earth and centred around you. I trust that deep down you already hold the answers, even if you feel out of reach right now, I will help you make sense of your situation and figure out what’s important to you, your goals and choices.
As well as being trained in the person-centred approach I have other therapeutic training and skills which I use, depending on what people need.
Practice description
Who am I
I have been a counsellor for over a decade and started my private practice when I finished my Masters in Clinical Counselling in 2011. I am a member of the Â鶹Դ´ which means that all my practice is supervised and within an ethical framework.
My experience
I have had a wide experience of issues over the years and I have worked with people on a variety of issues such as:
* Anxiety and feeling low
* Relationship difficulties and family dynamics
* Stress and feeling uncertain or stuck
* Addictions to behaviours and substances
* Eating struggles
* OCD, anger and coping behaviours
* PTSD and working with veterans
How I work
My approach is respectful and caring and centred around you. I trust that deep down inside you already hold the answers, even if they feel out of reach and my aim is to help you to make sense of your stuff and figure out your choices.
Depending on what you need I will bring a variety of tools, such as CBT, Control therapy, Transactional Analysis, Creative approaches. Our sessions will always work at your pace and address what you want to work on.
I offer online or face to face, or a mixture, whatever suits you.
My first session
In the first session I ask a bit more about the issues that you are
struggling with and will ask for some background information so that I can see how I might be able to help and what kind of approach will suit you.
The session also gives you a chance to check me out and ask any questions you may have about me, my practice and my approach.
After the session I ask that you give yourself 24 hours to have a think and then to decide if you wish to work with me on your problems.
