About me and my therapy practice
I am a Counselling Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor with a Doctorate in Counselling & Psychotherapy and almost 20 years鈥 experience supporting people through grief, trauma, and major life transitions. My practice is grounded, relational, and evidence-informed. I work collaboratively so you can explore experiences, develop insight, and build the resilience to move forward.
I work integratively, drawing on humanistic, relational, and trauma-focused CBT approaches to tailor sessions to each client鈥檚 needs. My style is warm, direct, and respectful: I offer empathy and challenge in equal measure, helping clients to understand patterns, make sense of difficult emotions, and develop practical strategies for change. Alongside individual work, I deliver couples therapy with my co-therapist, providing a balanced perspective to help partners improve communication and rebuild connection.
My specialisms include bereavement and loss, trauma, anxiety, workplace stress, relationship difficulties, and the psychological impact of disrupted rituals. I also provide clinical supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, and supervisors across the UK, offering reflective, supportive, and ethically robust supervision that promotes professional growth.
Sessions are available online nationwide and in person in the North of England. I offer flexible appointment times and maintain a small number of concessionary spaces for those on lower incomes.
My first session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to decide whether my way of working feels right for you. We鈥檒l talk through what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to achieve, and any previous experiences of support you鈥檝e had. I鈥檒l explain how I work, answer questions, and outline practical matters such as confidentiality, boundaries, fees, and frequency of sessions.
I don鈥檛 offer a 鈥渇ree鈥 introductory session; the first appointment is charged at the same rate as ongoing sessions; there is no obligation to continue after this first sesion.
If relevant, I may ask you to complete a short intake form or questionnaire so that I have key information (contact details, emergency contact, relevant medical issues) and can start safely and effectively. We鈥檒l also agree on a therapy agreement covering cancellation policy and data protection; everything discussed is kept confidential within professional and ethical guidelines.
This session is designed to give you clarity about what therapy with me will involve and to establish a working agreement that supports your goals.
