Welcome to my therapy practice!
I currently have some availability Monday - Thursday.
I offer trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirmative counselling and psychotherapy for autistic, ADHD, neurodivergent, and highly sensitive individuals. I also provide consultative supervision for qualified and trainee counsellors.
I am a 麻豆原创-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist, with extensive experience and an MA focused on therapeutic work with neurodivergent people.
I work eclectically with Person-Centred Theory at the core, placing the client as the expert in their own life and empowering them to find their own solutions. I adapt my approach to each individual, incorporating creative, visual and psychoeducational elements as appropriate. Therapy offers insights and tools to move forward at your own rhythm.
Why Choose Neurodiversity-Affirmative Therapy
Neurodiversity celebrates neurological variations as normal and valuable, shifting from "fixing" differences to honouring your unique strengths and needs. Sessions are offered in a safe, confidential space tailored to your sensory preferences, communication style, and pace, drawing on my MA research in therapeutic work with neurodivergent people. This approach helps you build self-awareness, reduce masking, and thrive authentically, whether navigating anxiety, relationships, or identity.
My Professional Approach
I believe in creating a safe and confidential space to allow you to explore any issues that you wish to bring to therapy. As an accredited member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (麻豆原创) and I adhere to their ethical framework for the Counselling Professions & I am fully insured. I am warm, sincere, caring, and non-judgemental. My MA research was about working therapeutically with neurodivergent people. I maintain my expertise through a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development annually. I adhere to the 麻豆原创 Ethical Framework, ensuring client-centred care.
About me and my therapy practice
How I work
I am warm, sincere, and non-judgemental. I integrate evidence-based methods to support your wellbeing amid life's ups and downs, from everyday stress to deeper patterns. Everyone faces times of feeling overwhelmed or trapped in unhelpful cycles; here, you gain a neutral space to explore, reflect, and grow. I work eclectically, with Person-Centred Theory at the core of my practice, recognising you as the expert in your own life and supporting you to discover solutions that feel authentic and empowering. My approach is flexible and responsive to each individual, integrating creative, visual, and psychoeducational elements where this is helpful. The work is trauma-informed, grounded in safety, collaboration, and respect for your pace and experiences.
Counselling can support you with areas such as developing coping strategies and assertive communication, improving relationships and boundaries, building self-esteem and self-advocacy, and challenging unhelpful thinking patterns. It can also involve exploring relaxation techniques, self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-care, including learning to manage your emotional and physical energy to prevent burnout. Counselling can help to deepen your understanding of your self and identity, reflect on relationship dynamics, and nurture your capacity to recognise and celebrate your strengths.
I offer counselling sessions online or over the phone, allowing you to access support from the comfort and safety of your own home or another private space. This way of working offers greater flexibility, as there is no need to factor in travel, and sessions can often fit more easily around your lifestyle.
I offer a half-price exploratory call, giving us the opportunity to ask any questions, see whether we are a good fit, and agree on the most suitable way of working together.
Please drop me an email if you would like to book a half price exploratory call either over Zoom (video call) or telephone.
Practice description
Neurodiversity is the diversity of human minds and variations are 鈥榥ormal鈥 and 鈥榲aluable鈥 with neurodiversity being the concept that neurological differences are to be recognised and respected as any other human variation. I use a neurodiversity-affirmative approach to working with my clients.
We all experience times when things aren't going the way we might like. We can find ourselves anywhere from a bit grey and unhappy to extremely dark and depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, stressed and spun out. We can get stuck in negative patterns of thinking which are difficult to break, become worried or anxious about the future, or unable to reconcile past decisions. A neutral space to think and feel can be extremely useful.
Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy
A safe, respectful space where you鈥檙e heard at your own pace. Trauma-informed psychotherapy recognises how stressful or overwhelming experiences can affect the mind, body, and relationships. Instead of asking 鈥淲hat鈥檚 wrong with you?鈥 we ask 鈥淲hat happened to you?鈥 and 鈥淲hat do you need now?鈥
This approach prioritises safety, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. It respects your boundaries, focuses on strengths and resilience, and avoids revisiting overwhelming details unless you choose to share them. You remain in control of what you share and how sessions unfold.
Who can benefit?
Trauma-informed therapy can support people who feel anxious or overwhelmed, struggle with trust or emotional regulation, have hard-to-explain stress responses, or want to better understand their reactions and build healthier coping skills.
Common Reasons Clients Seek Support
You might come to therapy to address challenges like these:
鈥 Building self-awareness, confidence, or assertiveness
鈥 Processing loss, break-ups, redundancy, or past issues
鈥 Managing depression, anxiety, loneliness, or feeling stuck
鈥 Improving relationships, communication, social skills, or family conflicts
鈥 Exploring purpose, sexuality, or work-life stresses
My first session
I offer a half price exploratory 50-minute exploratory consultation to determine if we're a good fit to work with each other. These are charged at 拢35 before 5pm and 拢40 after 5pm.
In the first appointment, this gives space for us to ask questions we may have. It will be an opportunity for you to say what brings you to therapy and to discuss your expectations. I will ask about your presenting issues (what brings you to seek therapy) and I will ask about any previous therapy you may have had and how you found the experience. It would be really helpful for me to understand your expectations and what you are hoping to gain from therapy. I can explain about the process and the practicalities of working with me. I am open to questions in the first appointment. I have a website: emmawestoncounselling.com which may give you some information about me, but if there is anything further you would like to know, please feel free to ask in our first appointment.
After our first appointment, if you would like to book some sessions, I tend to book in blocks of 6 and appointments will usually take place on the same day and at the same time each week. I usually do a review at session 4, and if clients continue beyond session 6, I usually do regular reviews. Some people choose to reduce their appointments down to fortnightly or monthly, depending on needs and circumstances.
Counselling sessions are offered online or over the phone, allowing you to access support from the comfort and safety of your own home or another private space. This way of working offers greater flexibility, as there is no need to factor in travel, and sessions can often fit more easily around a lunch break or after work. I tend to have very limited evening availability, the few spaces I have are often booked with a waiting list.
Please get in touch to book a half price exploratory appointment.

About me and my therapy practice
I offer integrative supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists, as well as other professionals that can benefit from supervision. My aim is that supervisees feel held, supported and gently challenged; that they leave supervision sessions with a renewed energy and motivation. I try to meet supervisees in the same way I meet my clients, where they are at, and work collaboratively to agree what is needed.
I regard supervision as our profession's unique, essential reflective space, a space in which to collaborate, relate, think, be vulnerable, feel supported, learn and grow.
I help my supervisees with such things as professional development, ethical and legal compliance, ethical dilemmas, contracting, developing their practices and CPD. Supervision offers a reflective space to explore the therapeutic process, to discuss working practices and feel supported.
I am an experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor. I hold 麻豆原创 Accreditation. I have an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice.
I have worked in counselling education, both as a tutor and for an awarding body and I have managed a counselling service. I am an experienced group facilitator.
Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your supervision requirements.
