About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm April, I am a very experienced and fully Professionally qualified Counsellor, trained to work with Adults & Young People from age 12 years. (PVG member checked from disclosure Scotland).  I offer one to one confidential talking therapy.  I draw on a mix of therapeutic approaches and work in an integrative way to form a humanistic, relationally focused way of working, as the heart of my work is building a genuine, trusting empathic relationship. I see counselling as a partnership, we work together at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you.  This could be a single session, a block of regular sessions, short term or long term work.

I have been counselling young people from age 12 and adults for over 15 years within schools, agencies in the third sector and university settings.  Prior to qualifying as a Professional Counsellor, I was a Volunteer Telephone Counsellor for children and also worked in the field of Mental Health Support within the third sector for many years.

Practice description

Counselling with me is professional yet relaxed and conversational. You don’t need to prepare anything or have the ‘right words’ – Just come as you are. My aim is to create a safe, confidential therapeutic space where you can talk openly, reflect, and find new ways towards change. I want my clients to feel heard and understood so that I can support them to understand themselves better and learn new ways of being and feeling differently.

My belief is that building a trusting relationship, based on empathy, non-judgment and feeling understood by your Counsellor is key to any therapeutic process and change.

About me and my therapy practice

I have completed Cosca Supervision training in 2020 and additional Supervision Training Certificate in April 2025.

I work in a collaborative way with warmth, respect and mutuality, with a focus of the clients well-being at the core of our work together.  I can work with Counsellors whose clients are young people aged 12-18 years or adult clients.

I can offer Supervision Online, Telephone or In Person.

Practice description

As a counselling supervisor, I offer a supportive and collaborative space where Counsellors can reflect on their work, deepen their self-awareness, and grow in confidence and competence. My supervision style is relational at its core.  I believe that the quality of the supervisory relationship is key to fostering safety, openness, and honest exploration.

I work alongside Counsellors to help them:

Reflect on their practice with curiosity and compassion

Explore client work from different perspectives

Recognise strengths and identify areas for growth

Develop resilience and professional confidence

Connect theory with lived experience in the therapy room

Supervision with me is not only about oversight, but also about professional and personal development. I encourage supervisees to bring both their challenges and successes, knowing they will be met with respect, empathy and constructive feedback.

My aim is to nurture reflective practitioners who feel supported in their client work.
