About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Â鶹ԭ´´ Registered person-centred counsellor and supervisor currently working in private practice with adults and older teenagers (16+). Since qualifying more than 20 years ago I have gained extensive experience of counselling both adults and young people in a variety of settings. Most recently I managed a secondary school counselling service for 11 years where I supported young people and staff as well as managing and supervising trainee and placement counsellors.

I offer a warm, caring and non-judgmental relationship based on privacy and trust which allows my clients to explore thoughts, emotions, and anxieties that might feel difficult to bear or to share in relationships with others. Clients may choose to use their sessions for different purposes such as personal growth, healing from past trauma and emotional hurt, understanding anxieties and anger, exploring options and making changes.

Practice description

Whatever the presenting issue my aim is always to nurture my client through the counselling process to develop a deeper understanding and acceptance of themselves; to understand how trauma and past experiences may have shaped their current thinking and behaviours, to see new perspectives and to explore new and more authentic ways of being in relationship and ultimately to articulate how things could be different and better in their lives.

I work with a broad range of issues including anxiety, bereavement and loss, confidence and self-development, gender and sexual identity, family issues, relationship problems, loneliness, work-related issues, overwhelm and burnout, women’s health issues and menopause, health and ageing. My work with young adults often explores the transitions from school to college, university and work and the challenges of developing personal responsibility, self-reliance and independence from parents

I offer face to face sessions from a dedicated therapy room in my home. My practice room is on the second floor and unfortunately not accessible to people who find stairs difficult.

My first session

I offer an initial 20 minute pre-assessment phone conversation (no charge) to discuss what brings you to therapy and to decide whether I can offer what you are looking for. This is followed by a more in-depth 60-minute face to face assessment session (payable) which is an opportunity for me to learn more about you and to explore your concerns, issues and hopes and goals for the counselling work.

Subsequent 60-minute sessions are usually offered in blocks of 6 although this can be flexible. We will regularly review progress together.
