About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced Â鶹Դ´ Registered person-centred humanistic psychotherapist and supervisor working with adults and young adults.
I offer a calm and thoughtful presence and describe my style as relational, collaborative and attuned.
Since qualifying more than 20 years ago I have gained extensive experience of supporting clients in a variety of settings. Most recently I managed a secondary school counselling service for 11 years where I supported young people and school staff as well as managing and supervising trainee and placement counsellors.
I support clients navigating a wide range of challenges including anxiety and stress, questions of identity, low mood and depression, low self-esteem and confidence, anger and irritability, work stress, overwhelm and burnout, life transitions, family dynamics, relational difficulties, parenting pressures, separation, bereavement, loss and grief, loneliness and isolation, health and ageing, sex and gender concerns and experiences of neurodiversity.
Further to my core training in the Person-Centred Approach, I have completed additional post-qualification training in various areas including working with trauma, creative approaches, mindfulness techniques and working with neurodiversity.
Practice description
I support my clients to understand how current difficulties and patterns of relating often reflect past experiences, trauma and deeper emotional needs that may not have been voiced or acknowledged. My approach is shaped by a wider interest in how emotions are held in the body and how psychological and emotional stress can often manifest as physical health problems, sleep disturbance, fatigue and chronic pain.
I offer a relationship in which clients can share their inner lives, explore what feels difficult, confusing or unresolved with honesty, curiosity and care. I work alongside my clients to move towards insight, greater clarity and self-compassion, always with a focus on identifying changes that feel both meaningful and sustainable.
I create a therapeutic space that is inclusive and respectful and welcome clients from all backgrounds, gender identities and sexualities working with sensitivity to my clients’ unique backgrounds, values and lived experiences.
I offer face-to-face sessions from a dedicated therapy room in my home. My practice room is on the second floor and unfortunately not accessible to people who find stairs difficult.
My first session
I offer an initial 15-20 minute informal phone call (no charge) to discuss what brings you to therapy and to decide whether I can offer what you are looking for. This is followed by a more in-depth 60-minute face-to-face assessment session (payable) which is an opportunity for me to learn more about you and for us to explore your concerns, issues and hopes and goals for the counselling work.
The number of subsequent sessions will be discussed at this stage and then the work will be reviewed on an on-going basis.
