Availability
At present, I offer counselling remotely, primarily through online sessions and telephone counselling. I currently do not have a counselling office, so online and telephone work allow me to offer clients flexibility and accessibility. From September, my availability will be primarily during the evenings and weekends.
About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor with a humanistic, person-centred foundation to my practice. I believe that everyone has their own unique experiences, strengths and ways of understanding the world. I aim to provide a warm, accepting and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood and able to be yourself.
My approach is collaborative. Rather than telling you what you should do, I will work alongside you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. I believe that being genuinely heard and accepted can be an important part of the therapeutic process.
My practice is informed by my understanding of attachment, shame and trauma, and I am particularly interested in how our past experiences and relationships can influence how we see ourselves and relate to others. I work at your pace and will never pressure you to discuss anything before you feel ready.
You may come to counselling with a particular difficulty you want to explore, or simply with a feeling that something isn’t right. Whatever brings you, I offer a confidential space where you can explore what is happening for you without judgement.
I am particularly interested in the relationship between shame and self-compassion, and how counselling can help us develop greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and kindness towards ourselves.
I currently offer counselling online and by telephone. From September, my availability will primarily be during evenings and weekends. I am committed to ongoing professional development and to providing ethical, thoughtful and compassionate support.
My aim is to help you make sense of your experiences, understand yourself more fully and feel more able to move forward..
Practice description
I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood and accepted. I work from a humanistic, person-centred foundation, which means I believe you are the expert in your own life and that counselling is a collaborative process. Rather than telling you what you should do, I will work alongside you to explore what is happening for you and help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences.
My practice is informed by my understanding of attachment, trauma and shame, and I am particularly interested in how our past experiences and relationships can influence how we see ourselves and relate to others. I recognise that everyone responds to their experiences differently, and I will always work at your pace. You will never be pressured to talk about something before you feel ready.
You may come to counselling with a particular difficulty you want to explore, or perhaps simply with a feeling that things are no longer working for you. Whatever brings you to counselling, I aim to provide a safe and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement.
At present, I offer counselling online and by telephone. From September, my availability will primarily be during evenings. I am committed to continuing my professional development so that I can provide thoughtful, ethical and effective support to the people I work with.
My aim is to help you feel able to be yourself, make sense of your experiences and develop greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-compassion.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet, get to know each other and begin to explore what has brought you to counselling. I understand that starting counselling can feel daunting, so I will aim to make the process as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
We can talk about what you would like support with, what you hope to gain from counselling and anything you feel is important for me to understand about your circumstances. I will also explain how I work and discuss practical matters such as confidentiality, boundaries and the counselling agreement, so that you know what to expect.
There is no expectation that you have to tell me everything in the first session. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, and we can work at a pace that feels right for you.
The first session is also an opportunity for you to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me. I believe the therapeutic relationship is an important part of counselling, so it is important that you feel listened to, respected and able to be yourself.
We will use the session to begin identifying what you would like to explore and, where appropriate, agree how we might work together in future sessions. You are welcome to ask questions at any point.
My first session is charged at the same rate as subsequent sessions.
