About me and my therapy practice
Life can feel overwhelming at times and turning to therapy for some support can feel daunting. You may be feeling 'not yourself', grieving a loss, navigating life changes, struggling in relationships, to fit in or feel misunderstood. Whatever your reason, I aim to offer a calm space to explore whatever is going on for you.
I'm an Integrative, Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, which basically means I draw on a range of tools, theories and ways of working to suit your needs. I have also worked as a Samaritans Listener and Leader.
Finding a person you feel comfortable with is the first step, which is why I offer a, free 20 minute phone call, so you can ask all the questions you may have and see if we would be the right fit.
With over 25 years of working as a Somatic Therapist in the Wellness Industry, I have a passion for working with the mind body connection and have worked both 1:1 and as a group facilitator. As a Counsellor I have worked in both educational settings and non-profit organisations offering both time-limited and open-ended counselling. I can also offer creative tools and interventions that can provide powerful ways for exploring things when words become difficult but I will always be led by you.
Before moving to work in the Mental Health field, I worked as a Art Director and Copywriter in the fast paced Advertising world in London, so I have a real understanding of the stress and strains of working in the corporate world. I'm also a Third Culture Kid and have navigated growing up across different cultures. So I welcome people from all backgrounds and cultures.
Client experiences have included (but not limited to), sexual abuse, domestic abuse, trauma, neurodiversity ( I was diagnosed late as ADHD but identify as AuDHD), sexuality, identity, bereavement, relationships, infertility, menopause, baby loss, life transitions, loss, health diagnoses, feeling stuck, low self-worth and experiences of living between cultures.
Practice description
Having a calm, quiet place was important to me when I went for personal therapy. So that is why i've chosen to carry out my sessions at 'The Hub' in Wrington. A beautiful, tranquil spot set overlooking fields and the Mendip hills. A wonderful space to take the time to draw breath, reflect, contemplate and unravel whatever you want to bring. 'The Hub' is based just a short drive from Bristol and only ten minutes from Bristol Airport, with plenty of free on street parking.
There is no right or wrong in Counselling, so please feel you can bring whatever is landing for you at that time and it can change as many times as you want , as our lives are constantly evolving.
I work by tuning into your individual needs to build a relationship on trust, respect and open communication. I also encourage you to bring yourself as you are and together we can begin to make sense of what you are experiencing. This may be exploring thoughts, patterns and behaviours that may be causing you discomfort or suffering. Therapy can also be a wonderful space to try new ways of being and relating.
I like to feel i'm very down to earth, non judgemental and curious. I also sometimes gently challenge if I feel it would be helpful to you. Trust is one of the most important factors of my work, so confidentiality will be key from the moment we both first speak. I also believe every client has individual needs, so I will adjust and adapt to fit your needs as our sessions progress.
I have reached out to therapy on and off throughout my life to help me navigate a range of challenges and losses. So I understand how it feels to be on the receiving end and how important it is to feel comfortable. I found therapy one of the greatest gifts I could have ever given myself and found it transformational and empowering and I would love to help you feel the same.
My first session
In our first session I will ask you some personal details such as name, address, GP, medical history etc and a brief assessment including what you've found useful and not helpful in the past.
We will start by finding a way of working that feels most helpful for you, building a trusting, non-judgemental relationship where I encourage you to bring your whole self.
My sessions are £60 for weekly sessions of 50 minutes. £75 for bi-weekly sessions. I also have a small amount of concessionary rates but there may be a waiting list for these.
