About me and my therapy practice
At Mill Park Therapy, I offer warm, down-to-earth counselling and psychotherapy in Cardiff and online for individuals & couples. It's a space to make sense of things at your own pace. Whether you’re feeling anxious, stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected, I can help.
Before training as a therapist, I spent over twenty years writing professionally. That experience taught me that people often make sense of their lives through the stories they tell about themselves. My role is to help you explore your story & what you’re going through with curiosity, compassion, and honesty.
I also offer a free 20-minute initial consultation, giving us a chance to chat confidentially and see whether working together feels right for you.
Practice description
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic ideas depending on what feels most useful for you. At the heart of my work is a warm, collaborative relationship where you can speak openly, feel properly heard, and begin to understand yourself with more clarity and compassion.
Together, we might explore the patterns that keep showing up in your life, the relationships that have shaped you, or the ways you have learned to cope with anxiety, stress, shame, loss or change. I work at your pace, offering space to reflect, but also gently helping you notice what may be keeping you stuck.
My practice is influenced by person-centred, psychodynamic, attachment-based, CBT-informed and narrative approaches. This means we can look both at what is happening now and at how past experiences may still be affecting the present. I aim to offer therapy that feels thoughtful, human and down-to-earth, with room for honesty, humour, difficulty and hope.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation, which gives us a chance to speak confidentially, ask any questions, and get a sense of whether working together feels right. There’s no pressure to decide immediately; it’s simply an opportunity for us to make first contact and think about what you might need from therapy.
If we decide to begin, our first full session will usually include a CORE-10 assessment. This is a short set of questions often used in counselling and psychotherapy to help us understand how you have been feeling recently, including things like mood, anxiety, day-to-day functioning and emotional wellbeing. Alongside this, we will spend time talking through what has brought you to therapy, what feels difficult at the moment, and what you would like to get from our work together. By the end of the first session, we should have a clearer sense of the main issues and how we might proceed in the following sessions.
