Therapist - Southampton

Southampton SO15
Sessions from £45.00

Features

Availability

I am currently available Monday 12pm till 6pm and all day Thursday 9am till 8pm.

Session price ranges from £45 - £60; whatever you feel is affordable. I want therapy to be accessible for all but I'm conscious that the cost is a barrier, so I keep the costs as low as I can.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi all, I'm Jon. I'm a therapist based in Southampton. I have had experience in multiple areas including addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, low mood and homelessness.

Therapy is a challenging thing to approach, it's hard to know what we'll get out of it or how it will feel being in the sessions. I offer a free 15-minute consultation on the phone if you reach out to me, so that we can discuss how therapy will work and what you would like to explore.

As a person-centred therapist I believe in the power of open and non-judgemental space to explore ourselves. Answers come when we understand the questions we're asking. Awareness comes when we feel safe enough to look at the parts of ourselves that are painful or difficult. I'm here alongside you in that process by understanding and supporting you.

You might notice I haven't ticked a lot of therapeutic approaches on here. That is intentional because- to me- the relational way of being (aka being present, listening, patient and responsive) is where we can do the most healing and learning.

You might look at the topics I've ticked as specialities and think there is an expertise that I hold; I am not and cannot be an expert in your life. I know that these issues don't define you, and I want to listen to you as a whole person with many parts. You may not see one of the tags you would have liked to have seen, I would say that does not change our potential to connect on your issues.

Practice description

Being person-centred means being guided by you and the goals you set on your terms. You are in control of the session pace, as these sessions are your safe space, and we will keep an open dialogue to ensure that you’re always comfortable. Whatever brings you here, we can work on together to figure things out.

Perhaps there is a specific thing to bring you to counselling. I know that sometimes to talk about those issues we go "around the houses" and talk about different subjects, but that link is there and we can find out. Maybe you're coming to better understand your yourself, sessions may vary week by week in what is covered. As long as you find the journey useful, the destination is irrelevant!

Perhaps you also want to express how you feel through drawring or colouring, I provide supplies so that your creativity/expression can come out. Sometimes, the words can't come out or we can't find the words, but creativity has a great chance to bring that out and help us to learn from ourselves.

My first session

As I've mentioned, first thing after emailing we can have a 15 minute free consultation to discuss sessions. From first contact I will send you my counselling contract for you to read and have returned to me by the first paid session.

In that first session- whether in person or online- we'll complete my counselling assessment together. This is so I can check-in with your wellbeing and you initial goals can be written. After that we, we talk.
