About me and my therapy practice

I work in a structured way. We talk together with purpose.

We would first discuss the areas in which you want help. For example, this could be identifying feelings of anxiety, or low mood, or difficulties around neurodivergence and daily functioning.

Together we will then identify what is causing the feelings, behaviours or thoughts to be maintained.  We will set a goal for what you want to get out of therapy. This can typically take 1 or 2 sessions.

We will then challenge and test whatever is causing you to feel 'stuck,' so that you can improve the situation. This usually takes between 4 and 20 sessions, depending on the complexity of the issue.

I always explain the rationale behind the approach and will have regular progress check-ins with you. I want to hear about how you are experiencing therapy, and will ask you to review your treatment with me regularly.

Once started, you can end therapy at any time. Anything you share in therapy is confidential, within ethical limits.

Getting therapy for the first time can feel overwhelming. From our first session together you'll have a safe space to discuss whatever it is that brought you here today. If you want to find out more, get in touch by email or phone - I look forward to hearing from you!

Practice description

My core training was in cognitive behavioural therapy. It is goal-oriented, evidence-based and effective for many people.

I will often use cognitive behavioural approaches in therapy, but can adapt to other approaches if you feel this will help you engage better with therapy.

We can connect your past experience to your present life, but you decide where to go next. I will support you to make the changes needed to feel better.

I can offer a discount rate of £25 per session for people who are on a low income and students.

My first session

In the first session we will explore what brings you into therapy and identify goal(s) together.  This may include some short forms, to help me understand your experiences.

Sometimes people come to therapy and say they don't have a goal beyond just wanting to feel better. If that resonates with you, then I can help you to clarify what 'better' looks like in a practical sense. We can put the steps in place to help get you there.

The work will always be practical and grounded in the reality of your current experience.
