About me and my therapy practice
I鈥檓 a 麻豆原创-registered psychotherapist specialising in trauma, identity, and the experience of feeling 鈥渘ot quite yourself鈥 as if something essential has become blocked.
Many of the people I work with are intelligent, capable, and self-aware. They鈥檝e often tried therapy before, read extensively, and done everything 鈥渞ight鈥 yet something still isn鈥檛 shifting.
Through trauma, shock, or overwhelming experience, aspects of the self can become split off; holding pain, memory, or emotion that the system could not process at the time. Other parts then take over, maintaining control, functioning, and survival. Life continues; but not as a whole.
Rather than staying only at the level of talking, we work with what is actually happening inside you; locating the parts that carry distress, understanding their role, and restoring connection between them.
I developed this approach over more than 30 years of research into human behaviour, trauma, and identity.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked as an investigative journalist on Fleet Street for over 15 years, with bylines in the Sunday Times and Daily Mail, where I studied human behaviour in extreme and complex situations. I later trained in psychotherapy and explored therapeutic approaches internationally, including Primal Therapy and EMDR in the United States.
Alongside my clinical work, I am a Sunday Times bestselling author, with books including The Psychology of Fear of Love, and my more recent work on identity.
This work may include parts-based therapy, deep emotional processing, somatic awareness, and, where appropriate, more exploratory approaches to consciousness and inner experience.
For some clients, this extends into areas such as symbolic work, deep imagery, or 鈥渟oul retrieval鈥 always grounded in psychological understanding and focused on integration, not abstraction.
Practice description
I work with people who feel stuck; often with depression, anxiety, or a sense that life isn鈥檛 quite working, but without fully understanding why. They may feel confused, internally divided, or caught in repeating patterns in work or relationships. Many have tried therapy before but found it didn鈥檛 reach what was really going on. Together, we look beneath the surface to understand what鈥檚 driving this, working directly with different parts of you so things can begin to shift.
I use a structured, depth-focused approach, combining psychotherapy with parts-based and deeper experiential work.
Rather than just talking, we work with what鈥檚 happening underneath; helping you access, understand, and integrate what鈥檚 been blocked so you can move forward more clearly.
If you feel something isn鈥檛 shifting despite your efforts, it may not be about trying harder. I offer an experiential, depth-focused way of working.
You鈥檙e welcome to book a free 15-minute introductory call to see if this feels like the right fit for you.
My first session
When someone first comes to see me, I take time to understand their life story, the experiences that have shaped them, and the patterns that may be influencing their present. Many people arrive feeling confused, stuck, or disconnected from themselves; repeating patterns in relationships, anxiety, or emotional states that no longer make sense.
In these early conversations, we begin to identify where something may have been lost, hidden, or forced to adapt in order to survive difficult experiences. Protective parts of the personality may have developed, while other parts may have withdrawn or become less accessible.
I work with the understanding that these different parts continue to shape how we feel, think, and relate to others, often outside of our awareness.
Once these patterns become clearer, the work can move into a deeper stage.
Using a calm and focused approach, similar to guided hypnotherapy, clients are invited to explore their inner world in a structured and contained way. Within this space, the psyche often communicates through imagery, memory, and sensation, allowing deeper aspects of the self to emerge.
People may become aware of protective parts, emotional memories, or earlier versions of themselves that have been carrying unresolved experiences. The aim is not simply to analyse these from a distance, but to engage with them directly and understand their role within the personality.
From there, the work becomes one of retrieval and integration; helping these parts reconnect with the present self so that the personality can function more fully and coherently.
Many people experience this as an immediate meaningful shift: a greater sense of clarity, emotional stability, and a feeling that something essential has returned.
In this sense, our therapy is not only about addressing problems. It is about restoring connection to the deeper structure of the self.
A process of returning to oneself.
