About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Emma. Is your child struggling to get to school? Are they finding a new school or year group difficult to settle into or have there been changes at home that mean they are worrying.
I am an experienced (PTUK) accredited play therapist and Â鶹Դ´ registered member, and I work with children and young people who are experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, anger and stress. I specialise in working with children in EYFS and KS1, though I work with older children and teens too.
Play and creative arts therapy (aka play therapy) helps children to express themselves and find healthier ways to cope with anger, fear or worry. It helps them to explore their thoughts and feelings and make sense of their life experiences. Children who come to play therapy leave happier and better able to tell people what is wrong or what they need.
With over 25 years of primary school teaching experience I have seen first hand how distressing it is for parents and children if school has become a difficult place to enter. Calm spaces and 'just get them in' may work for some but for a lot of children this isn't enough. I retrained as a play and creative arts therapist so that I could help children build self confidence and resilience and access their learning whether at school or at home.
Practice description
I work with children and young people face to face, often in schools or a hired space. In some circumstances I can work in your home. I am happy to travel for up to an hour from my home base of SE2. As well as working directly with children I also work with parents online or face to face to help them help their own children through playing together.
I have experience of working with children with ASD and ADHD. Neurodivergent children can find play and creative arts therapy particularly helpful in coming to terms with and celebrating their unique selves. I also have experience of working with d/Deaf children. I have a L2 BSL qualification which is rusty but helpful with oral d/Deaf children!
Play and creative arts therapy is led by the child and allows them to progress at their own level and pace. This helps them to explore confused feelings or upsetting experiences and builds resilience and confidence. Play is highly effective in helping children ‘play out’ what they may find difficult to express in words. Similarly for young people using the arts can help to express what they are feeling without the need to find the 'right' words.
Play and creative arts therapy is usually a minimum of 12 weeks to allow a trusting relationship to grow so your child can express themself freely. Older children (12+) and young people often need a shorter period. We will meet regularly throughout the period of therapy to review how things are going.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute zoom consultation or call to find out what you would like from your child/young person’s therapy. If you would like to go ahead we will arrange a more in-depth conversation.
After meeting with you I will meet your child/young person for a first session where they can explore the therapy room and we can get to know one another.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi I'm Emma. I am a MBCAP and (PTUK) accredited play therapist. I have been supervising for 7 years and offer supervision for people who work with children. This might be play therapists, counsellors, DSLs, or school staff and social workers.
Supervision is a supportive space where we can explore your work. It is a reflective process which aims to develop and deepen personal understanding and skills in relation to your work with children.
As a creative relational therapist myself I often use creative materials in the supervision space (although it is not compulsory!). This helps to move us away from being overly cognitive or problem-focussed. Creative experiences allow supervisees to explore aspects of their work which might not show up if we used words alone. This helps to deepen insight.
