About me and my therapy practice
On the outside, it may seem like you鈥檙e doing okay, but inside it feels very different.
Perhaps you鈥檙e struggling with anxiety, overthinking, low self-esteem or self-doubt. You might have a loud inner critic that makes it difficult to believe in yourself, or find yourself questioning whether you鈥檙e good enough, doing enough or living the way you 鈥渟hould鈥 be. You may find difficult emotions hard to sit with, so you keep yourself busy, distract yourself or try to push feelings away. You might tell yourself, 鈥淚 shouldn鈥檛 be feeling like this鈥 or 鈥淚 shouldn鈥檛 be thinking this way鈥, while your thoughts continue to spiral.
Perhaps you鈥檙e used to being the supportive one who is there for everyone else, but find it difficult to ask for support yourself because you don鈥檛 want to feel like a burden. You may compare yourself to other people and feel like everyone else is doing more, achieving more or somehow doing life better than you. This can leave you feeling like you鈥檙e never quite enough and that you always need to do more.
Sometimes, we can become so focused on what we think we should be doing, or what other people expect from us, that we lose touch with what we actually want, need and feel. You might not even know exactly what you need help with. You may simply know that something doesn't feel right, that you feel stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself, and want to understand why.
Practice description
Whether you want to talk about a specific issue, understand your anxiety and overthinking, improve your self-esteem, explore difficulties in your relationships, or develop a more accepting relationship with yourself, we can explore this together.
As a person-centred counsellor, I believe you are the expert in your own experience. I won't tell you what you should do or try to fit you into a particular way of working. Instead, I'll offer you a safe, accepting and non-judgemental space where we can explore what is happening for you at your own pace.
You don't have to come to counselling knowing exactly what to say or where to start. There is no pressure to talk about something before you feel ready. Together, we can begin to make sense of what you're experiencing, understand how your experiences may be influencing the way you think, feel and respond, and notice patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck.
I'm interested in helping you become more aware of your inner experience 鈥 noticing what you're feeling, what your emotions may be communicating and how you respond when things feel difficult.
Rather than trying to get rid of difficult thoughts and feelings, we can work towards developing the ability to be with them without feeling so controlled by them. Over time, this can create more space to respond to yourself with understanding and self-compassion rather than criticism and judgement.
My aim isn't to change who you are. It's to help you understand yourself more deeply, feel more comfortable being yourself, and move towards a way of living that feels more true to you.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute phone call once you enquire. I know this can be nervewracking to take this first step but it will be informal and a chance for us to have a chat about what's made you decide to start with a counsellor, you can ask any questions if you have any, I can also explain how my approach works and it will give you a chance to see whether it'll be the right fit for you. There's no obligation to continue if you have this call and decide that it may not be the best fit for you, I want you to be sure that you're getting a counsellor that suits you best!
