Integrative Counselling and Coaching offers something different...
Most people arrive at therapy not knowing what to expect, how long it will take, or whether it will really help. Personal Consultancy is a structured four-stage model that combines the reparative depth of counselling with the forward movement of coaching, so you get reflection and momentum in one process.
I’m Ryan Karter MÂ鶹Դ´ MSc MA BA (Hons), an integrative therapist and coach, and founder of The Karter Consultancy (TKC). I created TKC to offer something different for people who are struggling in life and unsure which type of therapist or coach to turn to. Through integrative counselling and coaching, delivered within the Personal Consultancy model, I offer a person-centred, holistic approach that combines depth, structure, and direction. My work is also informed by neuroscience, combining emotional understanding with practical techniques that help new ways of thinking and feeling take root over time.
Training, Qualifications and Experience
I hold an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Coaching from the University of East London and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹Դ´).
Alongside my private practice, I bring clinical experience from addiction work at Addiction Support & Care Agency (ASCA) in Richmond, where I supported individuals and families affected by alcohol and substance misuse.
My background includes more than 17 years of professional experience working with children, young people, adults, and families across charities, local authorities, NHS, schools, and community settings. This has included work with autism, learning difficulties, physical impairments, severe mental health challenges, men’s mental health, anxiety, depression, burnout, OCD, trauma, and relationship difficulties.
Practice description
Do any of these sound familiar to you?
- Feeling trapped in a job you hate, or overworked, undervalued, or burnt out.
- Waking up with a sense of dread or panic about the day ahead.
- Feeling unhappy in a long-term relationship, or struggling to connect with someone through dating apps.
- Turning to alcohol, drugs, gambling, or other unhealthy coping strategies to self-soothe.
- Finding it hard to relax, sleep, or feel at ease because you are constantly on edge.
- Feeling like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.
- Struggling with intrusive thoughts, obsessive worries, or constant overthinking.
If the answer is yes, I can help bring clarity and meaning to your life through collaborative, integrative therapy.
I work with people who want support with both the deeper and the more practical side of change. Some clients come because they are struggling with addiction, including alcohol, drugs, pornography, gambling, social media, sex and love, or compulsive eating patterns. Others come because they are living with anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, bereavement, life transitions, social anxiety, or trauma-related difficulties. Some people simply feel stuck, lost, overwhelmed, or unsure how to make sense of life.
I also work with men’s mental health and the pressures, expectations, and challenges many men experience, including emotional isolation, shame, difficulty asking for help, and patterns of self-reliance that can make it harder to reach out.
Locations
- In person at my Richmond upon Thames therapy space.
- Online via secure, encrypted video meeting.
- Walk-and-talk therapy in selected outdoor settings within the borough of Richmond, including Richmond Park and Richmond Riverside.
Whether we are working with repeated thoughts, behaviours, emotional patterns, or life direction, together we can move towards greater clarity, steadiness, and choice.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation, either by telephone or online video meeting. This is an opportunity to understand which issues and areas you would like to address, and to ask any questions you may have about engaging in therapy.
Your first full session is charged at half-price: £40 for 50 minutes. This gives us a chance to further explore what brings you to therapy, what you would like help with, and whether we feel like a good fit to work together. There is no obligation to continue after this session.
As an alternative to the standard rate of £80, I also offer a Commitment Package of 12 sessions for £795, usually £960, for clients who want to commit to a longer piece of work.
