About me and my therapy practice
Are you someone who's often really harsh on themselves, doubts their decisions or compares themselves to others? Perhaps the one who others rely on, or the one who holds everything together in work, with family or in relationships? Yet deep down, you're feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected, no matter what you do.
I also appreciate that you might not have the words right now to explain how you feel, you just know that you don't feel like yourself, or that something is off in some way.
How I can support:
- I offer a space for you to talk about whatever you're going through, and it will be met with care and compassion.
- I won't judge you in what you share and I work in a way that follows your pace. There's absolutely nothing you have to say before you're ready.
- I'll really listen to you with what's been happening and what might be holding you back, to support in reconnecting with what matters to you.
- You can bring all the messiness and swear words, nothing needs to be right, we're human and this is your time for you.
I often support people who:
- Feel exhausted from constantly needing to keep going or hold everything together at work, in relationships, or for those around them.
- Feel a strong sense of responsibility for others, often putting other people’s needs before their own.
- Find themselves overthinking, doubting decisions, or not feeling like they're doing enough, no matter how much they try.
It can feel daunting to start counselling and there might be worries about this for you. If you have any questions or would like to see whether counselling with me feels like it might be the next step, you're welcome to get in touch or visit my website for further information.
Practice description
Personal Experience:
- Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years in a busy corporate career where I appeared fine on the outside, but often felt overwhelmed, stressed and self-critical on the inside.
- I can therefore, appreciate how exhausting and lonely this can feel.
- I come to this work as someone who hears how hard it can be to ask for support and who believes in the impact of being truly heard and understood.
Training and Qualifications:
- CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
- CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
- CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
I'm also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MÂ鶹Դ´), which ensures I'm maintaining professional and ethical standards in my work.
My Approach in Counselling:
- Is Person-Centred, which is about really being there with what you'd like to talk about and listening to your world and your experiences.
- Rather than trying to fix or give advice, it's about providing a supportive and trusting space for you to explore what you're carrying, at whatever pace and direction you'd like to take.
- I'm human and messy too, still working things out myself along the way. I don't believe counselling is about arriving somewhere perfect but more that it can offer a way of coming home to yourself, a little at a time.
Ongoing training and experience:
- I really believe in ongoing learning and development, beyond my current qualifications. I regularly engage in continuing professional development (CPD), reflective supervision and additional training to keep my practice informed, ethical and responsive to those I support.
- I currently see individuals in both private practice and through volunteering with a local charity, where I’ve supported people with a wide range of life’s challenges and experiences.
- My ongoing experience reminds me of the courage it takes to begin counselling and the real impact that it can bring when you're feeling stuck and disconnected from yourself.
My first session
Before starting counselling:
- I offer a free 20-minute call to understand how I can support and give space for any questions you may have.
- There's no obligation to continue into counselling after our call. The important thing is that you find a counsellor who you feel is going to be supportive for you.
What to expect in a first counselling session:
- In a first counselling session, we'd understand a little more about what's brought you to counselling and what you are hoping to get from counselling overall.
- We'll also talk about how we might want to work together, including how we can keep our work safe and supportive for you.
- Ahead of our sessions starting, some information about counselling together will be sent to you beforehand, just in case you prefer to have this ahead of time.
