About me and my therapy practice
I鈥檓 Maithili (pronounced 鈥渕颈驳丑迟颈濒测鈥) - I'm a psychodynamic psychotherapist.
Psychodynamic simply means we think about how your past experiences and relationships may influence how you feel, behave and connect with others today. Alongside this, I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, so we can explore your thoughts and emotions from different angles to find what feels supportive and meaningful to you.
My approach is collaborative and relational - I shape the way I work around your individual needs at a pace that feels right for you. My style is warm, steady and down-to-earth, creating a space where you can talk openly, feel understood and gently make sense of whatever you鈥檙e facing.
My expertise include working with complex trauma, anxiety and depression, abuse, self-harm, disordered eating, low self-esteem and life transitions 鈥 supporting understanding and rebuilding a sense of safety, coherence and connection. I have worked with clients across a wide range of life transitions and identities, including diverse ages, genders, sexualities, neurotypes, disabilities, cultural backgrounds and relationship preferences.
I have a passionate interest and experience in how gender identity and sexuality shape emotional life, alongside working with minority and marginalised communities and supporting clients affected by anxiety, trauma and abuse - areas that often intersect in meaningful ways.
Therapy with me is a space to make sense of your experiences, to reconnect with yourself and others and to move towards a life that feels more authentic, grounded and alive.
Practice description
I offer one-to-one therapy for adults and young adults, working both in person and online. Sessions last 50-minutes and usually take place weekly, as this offers the most continuity and progress.
I work with both short-term, focused therapy and longer-term, open-ended work, and we can think together about what feels most helpful for you and your circumstances.
Life often brings us to turning points that hold both fear and possibility, along with a sense of loss and the potential for growth. I understand that seeking therapy at such moments can feel daunting. I aim to offer a containing, supportive space where we can explore whatever feels important to you at a pace that feels right 鈥 to grieve, to make sense of what feels difficult and to move towards greater clarity, balance and a deeper sense of self.
My first session
Step1: I offer a free 20-minute call with me to explore what brings you to therapy. I can give you a sense of how we can work together, answer any questions you may have and give you insight into how therapy might work for you.
Step 2: If we decide to proceed, we have an initial 75-minute consultation (拢75), where we can explore how it feels to work together.
Step 3: If the fit feels right, we then proceed with regular 50-minute sessions.
