About me and my therapy practice

As an integrative and pluralistic therapist, I believe therapy should be shaped around you rather than expecting you to fit a single method of therapy. We will work together to understand what you would like support with and what feels most helpful for you.

Everyone experiences life differently, and I respect each person’s individual way of thinking, feeling, and making sense of the world. My work is neuro-affirming, which means I recognise and respect differences such as autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent ways of experiencing life. Therapy with me is a space where you do not have to hide or change who you are.

Our sessions may involve talking through experiences that are affecting you now, exploring patterns that may have developed over time, and finding ways that may help you feel more supported or understood in your life.

I draw from several counselling approaches, which allows us to adapt the work to suit you rather than following a rigid model. Some people find it helpful to reflect on past experiences, while others prefer to focus on what is happening in the present and what might help moving forward.

We will regularly check in about how the work is going to make sure therapy continues to feel useful and supportive for you.

My aim is to provide a respectful, thoughtful space where you feel able to speak openly about what matters to you.

Practice description

I offer counselling for adults, children and young people who would like support with different aspects of their lives. People come to therapy for many reasons. Sometimes there is a clear difficulty someone would like help with, and at other times there is simply a sense that something in life needs attention or change.

I often describe therapy as being similar to going to the gym for physical health. Just as we may take care of our bodies through exercise and movement, therapy can be a way of looking after our mental and emotional well-being. It offers time to pause, reflect, and begin to understand what may be happening in your life and what changes you may wish to make.

Many people who reach out for therapy have lived through complex life situations or have felt misunderstood by services in the past. Therapy can offer a space to speak openly, without judgment or pressure, and begin making sense of what you have been carrying.

People may come to therapy with a wide range of concerns, including emotional well-being, relationships, trauma, addiction, health challenges, life transitions, loss and bereavement. I also recognise the importance of the bond many people have with animals and welcome conversations around pet loss and pet bereavement, which can be a deeply significant form of grief.

Where helpful, sessions may include creative ways to explore thoughts and feelings. This can support people of all ages when experiences are difficult to put into words.

Sessions are offered online or through home visits where appropriate.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to meet and begin to understand what has brought you to therapy.

We will spend some time talking about what has led you to seek support and what you would like from therapy. You may already have a clear idea of what you would like to explore, or you may know that something in life feels difficult at the moment. Both are completely fine.

The first session also gives you a sense of what it feels like to talk with me. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, so there is space for you to ask questions and decide whether working together feels right for you.

I will explain how counselling works within my practice, including confidentiality, session structure, and any practical arrangements. This helps ensure that you feel informed and comfortable about the process.

There is no pressure to share everything straight away. We will work at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Where appropriate, we may also begin to think about what you would like to gain from therapy and how we might approach this in future sessions.

Many people arrive feeling unsure about where to start. That is completely okay.

You do not need to prepare anything in advance or know exactly what to say. You are welcome to share whatever feels important, in whichever order feels right for you.
