Practice description

How I work

I鈥檓 a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor.

As an Integrative counsellor I don鈥檛 believe there鈥檚 a one-size-fits-all way to do counselling. Everyone鈥檚 different, so we鈥檒l work in a way that suits you, your personality, what you鈥檙e dealing with, and what feels comfortable. We鈥檒l go at your pace, and you鈥檒l always have a say in what our sessions look like.

As a Humanistic counsellor, at the heart of my work is the belief that you know yourself better than anyone else. I鈥檓 here to listen, understand, and support you as you make sense of your thoughts and feelings. You don鈥檛 have to have the 鈥渞ight words鈥, we鈥檒l figure things out together.

If talking feels hard, that鈥檚 okay. I can use creative ways of working too, like art, drawing, or activities, which can make expressing yourself feel easier and less intense.

If sitting still isn鈥檛 your thing, that鈥檚 totally fine; we can walk, move around, or do something that feels more comfortable.

Counselling with me is about working together in a way that feels relaxed, supportive, helping you feel more understood, more confident, and better able to handle whatever life is throwing at you.

A little about me

During more than 20 years working in education, I was drawn to the pastoral side of school life, being there for young people and families, supporting them through the ups and downs of school and home life. Those experiences, along with my roles as a mental health coordinator and youth advice practitioner, have given me a deep understanding of the emotional and practical challenges that people face in life.

In my personal life, I have been shaped by my experiences growing up as a mixed-heritage child/young adult in a single-parent family, and I have had many years to work on building positive relationships in a range of contexts. Also, experiencing the loss of loved ones has taught me how I can move forward carrying that loss, but also how to live with hope and positivity. Receiving personal therapy has certainly helped me.

My first session

Please contact me by phone or email to arrange a free 30 minute session (online or face to face). This gives us the opportunity to have a conversation about how we might work together, including the counselling agreement and practical considerations, such as whether you would prefer to sessions to be online or face-to-face. It鈥檚 also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.

Your first full counselling session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to feel comfortable in the counselling space. The focus is entirely on you and your experience. There鈥檚 no agenda, no tests, and no pressure to have all the answers. This session is simply about beginning to explore how you feel and what has brought you here.

If meeting in-person, I can offer a light, warm room, located a stone's throw from the sea, designed to be a peaceful retreat for reflection.
