About me and my therapy practice
My name is Samreen Ali, and I specialize in creative, art-based therapy for teenagers and young adults.
I bring a decade of experience in supporting young people in various roles, and I am particularly dedicated to working with individuals aged 12 to 25. The transition from childhood to adulthood is challenging on its own. When compounded by significant life events - such as parental separation, grief and loss, family relocation, or a traumatic start to life - these years can feel overwhelming.
In these situations, seeking support early can provide crucial tools for navigating this complex period and take a step towards 'becoming' and actualising the potential that lies within the young person.
I understand that language can sometimes fall short when processing tough experiences. My practice offers an alternative. In a safe, compassionate space, we use creative strategies that feel right for the young person to gently explore challenging feelings and experiences. This process bypasses the limitations of language to helps them safely connect with and 'feel' the feelings - no artistic skill is needed.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of this work. I am committed to providing a space filled with safety, warmth, and compassion, offering the support needed to heal and grow.
Practice description
As a Â鶹Դ´-accredited Integrative Counsellor, I have extensive experience supporting young people through a wide range of challenges, including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, as well as family and relationship difficulties.
I deeply believe that each person's lived experience is unique and my integrative training allows me to tailor the sessions to best meet the needs and goals of the young person, drawing on a diverse range of theories and techniques.
Fundamentally, my practice is built on a foundation of cultural sensitivity and humility. I value understanding the unique cultural background a young person comes from, ensuring our work together is respectful, relevant, and affirming of their identity.
My first session
Finding the right therapist is key, and starting with someone new can feel like a big step. It's essential to find a therapist who feels like the right fit.
Our first session is a chance for the young person to share their hopes, ask any questions, and see if they feel comfortable and supported working with me. It will also be an opportunity to discuss whether the work will be short-term, long-term, or open-ended.
My work aligns strongly with the Â鶹Դ´ Ethical Framework, which means I offer a respectful, confidential, and client-centred service.
