Practice description
About me:
I have a holistic approach to good mental health and wellbeing and have extensive experience of working compassionately with individuals over the age of 14, from teenagers to older adults. My background includes delivering mental health clinics for GP-referred patients, counselling trauma survivors of childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence via local charities and working as an NHS mental health nurse at the start of my career. My time as a Sixth-form school counsellor and working with students within Derby University Counselling service, informed my academic research, which focused upon adolescent mental health/neurodiversity and family systems.
Whatever is happening in your life, I will listen and accept you as you are. People often tell me they feel embarrassed that they鈥檙e struggling and feel they should be able to cope with whatever life throws at them. But there鈥檚 no need to battle alone - please don鈥檛 feel nervous taking this first step in contacting me. It might feel overwhelming to choose the right therapist from so many - that鈥檚 why I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation with no obligations. This is your first step towards a happier, more fulfilling life and beginning to talk means you鈥檙e no longer facing things alone.
My experience has given me an understanding of the difficulties we can all face with our mental health, enabling me to work with compassion and kindness as I support a wide range of life issues. I remain optimistic about human nature, believing that people can overcome adversity with the right support. Together we can explore and understand what鈥檚 going on for you, taking concrete steps towards improving your life.
My first session
Please get in touch to book a free, confidential 15 minute telephone initial chat, at a mutually convenient time (obligation free). If you email me I aim to respond within 24 hours and will arrange the call. You can then decide if I am the right therapist for you and choose whether to book a counselling session with me.
During the first session (50 minutes) we will spend time discussing what's brought you to counselling and what your expectations of counselling might be, but don't worry if you don't know this - many people don't. It will be a safe space where you can speak freely with me. Talking together will help me decide on the best approach when working with you, integrating the most relevant theories to support you. However, we will collaborate on a plan for your therapy together, aiming to lessen your distress or explore agreed areas in more depth. Talking will also help you decide if I am the right therapist for you and if you want to book further sessions with me, as well as giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
In advance of the first session I will send you a client/counsellor agreement to sign and return and a form with a few questions about you. This helps give me a brief background understand of you prior to therapy, although you may have questions arising from this and wish to discuss further with me in the first session.
