About me and my therapy practice

I'm Faisal Samadi, a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist working in both the NHS and private practice. My work is rooted in the belief that real change happens when we take time to understand the deeper emotional patterns shaping our lives; whether as individuals or as part of a group.

My approach is collaborative, creative, and deeply engaged, helping people work through unconscious patterns that shape their emotions, thoughts, and relationships. I provide both short- and long-term evidence-based therapy for issues extending to severe anxiety, depression, trauma, complex PTSD, hopelessness, and relational difficulties.

â¶Ä‹

Alongside my private practice, I work within an NHS Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), where I provide therapy to individuals with complex and high-risk presentations, in both one-to-one and group settings. A key part of my role involves conducting structured psychological assessments, developing a deep understanding of a person’s emotional world, risk levels, and treatment needs. I work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals, contributing to holistic, multidisciplinary care plans for those experiencing significant mental health challenges.

Beyond clinical work, I have contributed to academic research on unconscious group processes, social psychology, and cultural dynamics, presenting my published work at academic forums. I trained at Birkbeck, University of London, earning a Â鶹ԭ´´ and BPC accredited MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy, while completing my clinical training in the NHS with a highly experienced and respected training supervisor.

My private practice reflects the same depth, thoughtfulness, and commitment as my NHS work; working to provide a careful, emotionally engaged, and high-quality psychotherapeutic experience.

About

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach that helps you explore how your past experiences, relationships, and unconscious thoughts influence your current emotions and behaviour. Many of our feelings and behavioural patterns are shaped by earlier experiences; through a collaborative, open-ended conversation, psychodynamic therapy encourages self-reflection, helping you gain deeper insight into your inner world and how you relate to others. This process can lead to greater self-understanding, emotional growth, and lasting change in how you relate to yourself and the people around you.

Life’s struggles can feel overwhelming, especially when they seem to repeat themselves in your relationships, emotions, or sense of self. You might feel stuck, hopeless, or held back by patterns that you can’t quite make sense of on your own. Therapy offers a space to begin untangling these experiences - not just to find relief in the short term, but to create lasting change.

I offer a compassionate, collaborative, and creative space where you can explore what feels difficult or unclear at your own pace. My approach is not about simply observing from a distance; I work alongside your emotional state, helping you to uncover how past experiences, unconscious beliefs, and relational dynamics shape your present. Together, we will think deeply about what’s bothering you, while also opening up space for new ways of feeling, relating, and being.

Therapy must be challenging, but it doesn’t have to feel clinical or detached. Alongside pain and sadness, there’s room for curiosity, humour, and even playfulness in the process. I believe that meaningful change happens when you're met with both care and honesty; held in the difficult places of fear and grief, even gently encouraged to go deeper, to stretch towards something new and beautiful inside you - something that has probably always been there, just waiting to be re-found through your own imagination.

My first session

Exploring Therapy

Beginning psychotherapy can sometimes feel daunting, especially if you’re unsure what you’re looking for or if past experiences with therapy have left you feeling hesitant. Our first sessions would be a chance to get a feel for how we might work together, without any pressure to commit.

If you're curious about whether therapy could help, or simply want to explore what working together might feel like, get in touch to arrange an initial assessment session. There’s no pressure to commit beyond what feels beneficial.

Initial Assessment Sessions

To help you decide if psychotherapy - and therapy with me specifically - feels like a good match for you, I offer two to three initial assessment sessions at a reduced fee, this is to help us:

Explore what has brought you to therapy and the difficulties you’re facing

Clarify your goals and hopes for therapy and whether I might be able to help

Explore if short-term or long-term therapy would be most clinically effective or practical for you right now

Get a feel for how we might work together; therapy is an important relationship, and our therapeutic relationship should feel right for you

Discuss the structure and practicalities of therapy, including frequency, approach, and expectations

These sessions are not just about information-gathering, they’re a genuine opportunity to see if the therapeutic relationship feels like a good fit. Psychotherapy works best when it feels right for both of us, and there’s no obligation to continue if it doesn’t feel like the right space for you.
