About me and my therapy practice
Hi and welcome, my aim is to provide helpful strategies you can practice from the outset, whilst processing whatever it is that you need, developing resources for healing and fulfilment.
I offer time limited sessions; mid or longer-term therapy and I work with all ages, either online, over the telephone or face-to-face in Oving, near Chichester.
I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (NCPS) for adults and a Psychotherapist (UKCP) for children and adolescents. I provide a friendly, accepting and non-judgemental space to safely explore whatever you or your child needs.
I provide support for a wide range of difficulties, such as habits, day-to-day problems and working towards specific goals; to processing grief, a significant trauma, managing triggers, childhood difficulties, phobias, low self-esteem; relationships and major life changes. I have experience with learning difficulties, neurodiversity, ASD, AD/HD. My specialist interest is the impact of adversity and stress on our minds and bodies, and how psychotherapy tools and CBT can provide lasting relief.
You or your child/teenager may be overwhelmed, ashamed, lonely, angry, anxious or depressed, whatever is going on, I offer an initial consultation where we discuss your needs, you can ask questions you have, and we can build an individual solution-focused plan. I have a friendly, flexible approach and it would be great to meet you to start the next chapter.
Some of the areas I cover include:- AD/HD; adversity; anger; anxiety; anxiety disorders; ASD; boundaries; burnout; challenges at work/school; chronic pain; cycles of stuck behaviour; depression; divorce; dysregulation, emptiness; financial problems; grief; lack of confidence; life changes; loneliness; loss; low self-esteem; low mood;; OCD; overwhelm; panic; phobias and fears; post-traumatic stress; relationship difficulties; stress; sleep problems; pet loss, trauma, work issues.
Practice description
As an integrative therapist this essentially means I have a ‘toolkit’ of different theories and methods depending on what you need, these include CBT, Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Person Centred, Attachment-based, TA, Gestalt, Mindfulness, Art, Play and Creative Therapies. If there is a specific approach you have in mind that you would like to discuss please just get in touch.
It may be there is a particular difficulty you would like to address, such as a loss or change. Perhaps you have noticed you are not feeling your usual self. It could be you would like to be more confident or have a more positive outlook; it may be life isn’t feeling as balanced as it once was and you wish to review this. You may have a particular goal in mind and would like some support getting there.
Someone else may have suggested you seek some support, such as your partner or GP; it might be you are behaving in ways that are unsettling you or your loved ones. There could be an ingrained behaviour you keep repeating and wish it to stop. You might feel lost, overwhelmed and confused; possibly you are not sure why you would like support, but something has led you here.
Together, I aim to help you build tools for coping with stress, anxiety, depression and trauma.
You may become able to see things from a renewed perspective, so you make positive decisions and feel more in control going forwards.
Therapy seeks to improve the relationship we have with ourselves, not only increasing confidence and helping us achieve goals but also enabling improved relationships with others.
The sessions can focus on reducing negative thought patterns, helping to change your perspective so you feel more motivated and freer from past traumas and situations that held you back.
Through counselling you can discover more about yourself, so that not only do you feel more at ease, less anxious and stressed you also behave in ways that invites more joy and contentment into your life.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute telephone call so I can introduce myself and you can ask any questions you may have. If you wish to, I can find out more about what you are looking for and we discuss any goals you may have for you or your child's therapy.
After this, I usually suggest an initial session where we meet for up to an hour in person, online or over the phone. We will have more time to go through anything from the previous call and you may have some other questions you'd like to ask, please always fee free, it's really important that you feel you can ask me anything about you or your child's therapy.
I will provide some information around ethics including confidentiality and data protection. Then, if you are happy to, I will ask for some basic information about yourself and talk through the therapy contract, so that everything is clear for you around how I work and what to expect.
We can then focus on what your hopes and goals are, these might include:-
• Some space to talk things through, such as a bereavement, a life change or every-day problems.
• Techniques for self-esteem and ways to feel more assertive.
• Support to become better able to manage thoughts, feelings and behaviours, such as through CBT.
• Time to be heard, validated and understood.
• Support with boundaries and feeling more in control. Perhaps you would like to prioritise your own needs so that you feel more confident and better able to say ‘no’.
• Strategies to understand triggers to better manage stress and anxiety.
• A specific goal, such as improving health, sleep or confidence.
• Relaxation strategies.
• Working through a phobia or obsession.
• Exploring the past and how it impacts on the present, such as a childhood experiences.
• Support for conflicting parts of yourself, such as an overly harsh inner critic.
• Time to explore art and creativity.
• Relationship patterns.
• Understanding your child's needs to improve family life.
