About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, my name is Sofia (she/they) I am a humanistic person-centred counsellor who values the unique and individual perspective each client brings to the counselling space. My practice is anti-oppressive, neuro-affirming, inclusive, and trauma informed. I pride myself on working in collaboration with each individual to create an environment which is free from judgement or expectation.
I am a queer, disabled, neurodivergent individual who lives and works in these communities. With this comes a unique insight into the minority stresses and challenges many individuals face living at the intersection of these identities. Furthermore, I work with those who live with, or support those who live with, chronic health concerns, including endometriosis, fibromyalgia, POTS, EDS, MS, and menopause and fertility issues.
My areas of specialist interest include autistic spectrum disorder, ADHD, trauma informed therapy, self development, gender and sexual identity, chronic health conditions, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and self-worth. I am a kink friendly therapist with experience in working with ethical non-monogamy and diverse relationships.
Practice description
Counselling can provide a space where you can be your authentic self, be heard, seen, and accepted without the pressures and influences of the outside world. I work in a humanistic way which puts the client at the centre of everything I do. Stepping away from the traditional role of the ‘therapists as the expert’, instead placing the power back to the client, recognising their autonomy.
The client-therapist relationship is utilised to nurture the client’s innate ability to self-direct their own healing journey. This relationship is built on a foundation of acceptance without judgement, confidentiality, and mutual respect. I offer empathy, and listen to truly understand. It is from this insight that growth and change start to take shape.
My first session
I appreciate how daunting it can be to take that first step on your counselling journey and how important it is to feel comfortable with a therapist. I offer a free introductory meeting for all perspective clients, which allows you to get a sense of how it feels to work with me and ask any questions you may have.
I can work with you in person from my office in central Aberdeen or alternatively I provide online or telephone counselling throughout the UK.
