About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Claire. Whether you are living with anxiety or depression, facing difficulties, experiencing loss or wanting to make some changes to stop repeating old patterns, I offer to listen with empathy, warmth and openness in a confidential space where you can bring the topics and life challenges you wish to explore in therapy.
I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, so I can combine theoretical approaches, depending on what best suits you. Primarily, I believe that building a mutually trusting relationship, a human connection, is at the core of successful therapy.
My focus is always on supporting you to find clarity, peace and a way forward. We can work creatively, a powerful way to connect with thoughts and feelings that are hard to put into words. I also use mindfulness-based techniques and breathwork.
Every person is unique, and as I value the variety of human experiences. I welcome all genders, sexualities and neurotypes. My therapy rooms are as sensory-considerate as possible. I embrace the expression and spirituality of different traditions, cultures and faiths.
I have experience working for the NHS and in private practice with clients from many backgrounds, from young adults to senior citizens.
I am committed to furthering my skills with continued professional development in counselling and psychotherapy, and regularly attend workshops, conferences and seminars.
Practice description
I work in rooms in Coulsdon and South Croydon, as well as outdoors.
I can offer a free, brief preliminary call to discuss availability and your needs. If you wish to go ahead, each session will be 50 minutes, usually weekly. I can offer long or short-term therapy, in person, by phone, online, and Walk and Talk (outdoor) therapy.
My first session
Your first therapy session is a time for us to get to know one another, as well as discussing what brings you to therapy, the expectations you have of therapy, what outcomes you'd like to aim for and a chance to ask questions and share any concerns.
Before our first session, I will send you a form - to gather essential information such as yours and your GP's contact details, and also as an opportunity for you to tell me about yourself and start exploring what you'll bring to therapy. You can fill in as much or as little as you like, often people find it useful sharing a little background beforehand.
I am aware that it can be an anxious time, meeting a new person and speaking about what is on your mind. We will go at your pace.
In the first session, I will take notes. Rarely, if ever, will I take notes after this. All of your information is stored with strict confidentiality.
