About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Madeleine. I help people gain resilience and confidence in their choices, lives and bodies. Whether you’re recovering from a painful breakup, coping with lifelong anxiety, or struggling with sudden, unexplained sadness, we’ll work together to build the tools you need.

I am a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist (PGDip in CBT  &  group work, currently pursuing a PhD in mental health). My work is client‑centred, meaning you set the pace and choose the direction while I provide a safe, supportive space for you to explore your mental health and well‑being.

I value nature and the outdoors, believing in the role they can play in mental health. Clients describe me as warm, easy to talk to and good at offering a gentle challenge. I am LGBTQIA‑safe and have completed training in cultural, racial and ethnic competency. I’m experienced with sensitive topics such as intimacy, sex, shame and guilt. I solely work with adults (18+). I take session notes on an iPad, using its accessibility features to keep our work organised and secure.

I believe that getting the most out of therapy starts with being selective about your therapist. If after reading this you feel we might not be the right match, that’s perfectly fine (be as picky as you want!). If you think we could click, I’d love to hear from you.

Practice description

My approach blends evidence‑based CBT with a holistic perspective. I am to consider the whole person, including sleep, environment and lifestyle. I also recognise the varied impacts of trauma and integrate that understanding into our work together. 

Therapy with me is personalised. We adapt CBT techniques to fit your identity and unique circumstances, ensuring the tools you learn stay with you long after we finish. I offer both short‑term and longer‑term options, reviewing progress at regular intervals so we stay aligned. Additionally, humour is a welcomed part of my practice; it can provide relief and foster self‑expression when appropriate.

I continually grow and refine my skills through reading, webinars and continuous professional development. I may draw on methods such as mindfulness, grounding, schema therapy and psychosexual/relational work if it is useful for you.

My first session

Before our first session, we’ll have a free 15‑minute chat on the phone or via Google Meet.

  • We discuss what you’re looking for in therapy, I share a bit about my background, and I answer any questions you have. Together we decide whether to move forward.

First session (50 minutes, online or in‑person):

  • We walk through the therapy contract and intake form, signing the contract together.
  • You have the option to complete the intake form ahead of the session, but it’s entirely up to you.
  • We spend most of the session having an open conversation about what’s happening for you right now, identifying your goals and expectations, and beginning to shape what future sessions might look like. 
  • I do not take measurements or conduct assessments in the first session.

At the end of the session, I check in to see how you’re feeling in the moment, ensuring you feel supported throughout the entire experience.
