About me and my therapy practice
I understand that seeking help when things feel too much can be a daunting experience. That's why I strive to provide a safe and welcoming space for people to receive the support they need.
Growing up in the north of Ireland, I was curious about what shapes our sense of identity and how to repair ruptures within relationships and within ourselves. This led to a degree in Social Psychology and twenty years of working within statutory services alongside people experiencing neurodiversity, physical, and mental health support needs and survivors of abuse and neglect. This experience gave me the competence to provide a solid and safe space where people previously had felt anything but.
When I went through bereavement and a change in my own life, I turned to counselling and experienced first-hand the profound impact it can have, leading to a three-year journey retraining as a counsellor.
Since then, I've worked in both community and university counselling settings, supporting people from all walks of life through addiction, identity, gender issues, sexuality, control, bereavement, overwhelm, chronic shame, as well as long-held beliefs about "not being enough" or being "too much." I hope that people come away from our sessions feeling lighter, with compassion for themselves, or feeling clearer about their own "stuff", their internalised beliefs impacting everyday life.
Qualifications include:
Level 5 Dip Person Centred Counselling
BSc (hons) Social Psychology
MA in Social Work
Practice description
I offer a space to pause, be yourself, and feel truly heard. Person-centred counselling is about giving you a space where you can feel accepted and make sense of your unique experiences, moving forward in a way that feels right for you. Through acceptance of all parts of yourself, you can gradually let go of filters and show up in therapy and in life as you really are. Person-centred counselling is about understanding your world, so it naturally honours diversity of experience, culture, and identity. You are never directed to tell the details of your story; instead, you work at your own pace with a central foundation of trust in our relationship. At Safe Harbour Counselling, I provide professional and confidential person-centred counselling services in person in Polperro and the East of Cornwall, and online, with home visits offered when accessibility is an issue.
Individual therapy sessions provide a safe and confidential space for clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. I have a confidential room with a separate entrance for meeting in person.
Walk and Talk sessions are available on private farmland in Polperro or an option closer to you in the East of Cornwall. Walk and talk sessions offer a refreshing way to engage in counselling, allowing you to connect with nature, leading to a greater sense of calm. Walking side by side can feel less intimidating and more collaborative. Light physical activity can regulate the nervous system, allowing you to process thoughts more easily.
One-Off Counselling can help to release and reset by offering space and using regulation techniques with signposting and further support if required.
