About me and my therapy practice
How Can Therapy help?
Psychotherapy works by changing your mind.
You may be going through a crisis with more long term underlying difficulties which are preventing you from being productive at work or is interfering with important relationships. This may leave you feeling worried or depressed and it can be hard to cope with feelings of anger, low self-esteem or shame as a result.
It can be lonely struggling with mental distress and can sometimes be hard to see an end or a way out. Psychotherapy can help to stabilise things in the short term and manage those underlying issues that might be causing you stress, leading to a more positive outlook on life.
People who I work with find not only do the difficulties with which they first come to therapy improve, but that they gain a more confident sense of self, are more effective at work and are able to develop and maintain more meaningful relationships.
What is Therapy About?
I specialise in psychodynamic also known as psychoanalytic psychotherapy which works in depth with unconscious processes that are outside of our immediate awareness. This type of therapy can be especially helpful for more long term difficulties that might have their beginnings in early life, deeper rooted and ongoing relationships or challenging work situations.
Practice description
Training, qualifications & experience
I have trained both as a psychotherapist and medical doctor with 13 years of experience supporting people struggling with distress working in mental health in the NHS, forensic services, the charity sector and higher education.
I have 15 years of meditation experience informing my presence as a warm, empathic and confident therapist enabling clients to bring experiences that they might find particularly challenging.
In addition to my private practice in London Bridge and Greenwich, I work as a psychotherapist in the NHS in a community crisis service where I see a range of people struggling with depression and low mood, anxiety and panic, psychosis, eating disorders, suicidality and self-harm.
I trained in intercultural psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Tavistock and, as such, am sensitive to the importance of race, sexuality, gender, culture, religion and values. Before this I worked as a medical doctor, qualifying in 2012.
I'm particularly interested in working with people who may struggle to understand where their difficulties may be coming from despite trying other approaches already.
I have taken additional trainings to support people struggling with gambling, gaming addiction, troubling internet use, domestic and sexual abuse, suicidality and self-harm.
I have published a book called Meditation for Psychotherapists.
I also lecture at London South Bank University on their Mental Health and Clinical Psychology MSc course.
My first session
It can be daunting to start therapy and figure out who you might want to see or what kind of therapy might suit you best. Do get in touch for a free initial call for us to think together about what brings you to therapy, for you to get a sense of what this kind of therapy is like and to speak to any questions you have.
We can arrange a consultation together which consists of two consecutive sessions. It's a chance for us to map out what is bringing you to therapy, for us to get a feel of what it's like to work together and to think about what support might be most helpful for you at this time.
