About me and my therapy practice

Well done for taking the scary first step towards seeking more support. I know finding the right therapist can be overwhelming.

I'm guessing you're looking for therapy that's kind and non-judgemental, yet radically honest. The type that feels like chatting over a cuppa with a trusted friend. Therapy that's a sacred, supportive space just for you, outside of the rest of your busy life. Then, you can feel safe enough to slow down and start to grow towards the life you deserve to be living.

I鈥檓 Bex (she/they). I鈥檓 a professional, accredited counsellor. I affirm women, queerness, neurodivergence, and all diversity and difference. I鈥檓 also queer and have ADHD. I'm committed to anti-racist practice. I recognise the impact of systemic oppression. I believe survivors.

I have experience working with all kinds of mental health issues in different settings, including charities and the NHS. This means I am used to working with complexity and a mix of presenting issues.

I often work with trauma recovery and self-(re)discovery. Trauma can be big, or small; long-term, or a one-off event. Trauma means 鈥渢oo much, too fast, too soon, or not enough鈥 (Britt Frank). It can leave an imprint on your nervous system. In therapy, we can work with this imprint to come (back) to a place of safety.

Maybe you鈥檙e struggling to be fully present in your life. Or you fall into unwanted patterns - e.g., people pleasing, or partying too hard, or avoiding your loved ones, or not truly showing up for yourself. Perhaps you keep accidentally getting in your own way.  I鈥檓 guessing you鈥檝e read books, listened to podcasts, and tried healing practices, but there鈥檚 still a quiet, lost feeling that remains.

Whatever brings you here, if you want to feel more at home in yourself and rebuild your self-worth, you鈥檙e in the right place.

Practice description

I weave many threads into my work, including:

  • Meeting and befriending your inner child
  • Parts (or subpersonalities) work
  • Noticing how your body is feeling and learning to build more internal safety via your nervous system
  • Working with your unconscious (as in, discovering what鈥檚 going on underneath your mind鈥檚 conscious narrative)
  • Using creative tools like drawing, meditation, and the imagination

And more. We鈥檒l see what works for you and go at your pace.

My first session

Usually, we'll initially organise a (free) twenty-minute call. Here, I can answer any questions you may have, and we can see if we'd be a good fit to work together. We can also find a consistent time and place to have sessions.

Afterwards, the first therapy session is an information gathering session. I鈥檒l ask questions to understand the shape of your life so far and where you want to be.

Then, the usual sessions will begin. Things that might seem irrelevant can turn out to be really meaningful later on. You don鈥檛 need to know where to start. Some weeks might be sitting with, feeling through, and processing what鈥檚 painful or confusing. For example, when you start to feel more grounded, old emotions might resurface - ones you were not safe enough to feel before. These might need to be felt and processed from a place of greater safety in order to be healed. That鈥檚 normal. We鈥檒l go very gently and respectfully, working hard to ensure you are not overwhelmed or retraumatised.

Other sessions might bring humour, insight, and quiet shifts. It is normal for you to notice the work continuing between our sessions, too.
