About me and my therapy practice
I’m Lucia Harvey, I am a Child Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor specialising in children, teenagers, young people and parents. I understand that life can bring difficult times, and finding the right support for yourself or your child can feel overwhelming. I offer a calm, welcoming, and safe space where my clients can feel heard, understood, and supported as they navigate whatever challenges they are facing.
My main focus is working with children and young people, specialising in creative, play-based approaches suited to their developmental stage. Whether it’s drawing, sand tray, storytelling or other creative methods, these tools help children express feelings and experiences that can be hard to put into words. Combined with talking therapy, they deepen reflection, self-understanding and emotional growth.
I also work with parents and carers, offering a supportive, non-judgemental space to explore parenting and family challenges. Supporting parents is key to helping children thrive, and I aim to provide practical understanding and compassion during difficult times.
My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, blending humanistic, person-centred and CBT-informed models. It’s grounded in my knowledge of attachment, neuroscience and child development, allowing me to meet each child and young person’s needs with care. The therapeutic relationship is central to my work, and I tailor sessions to each person’s pace and goals.
I hold an MSc in Psychology and a Level 6 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. My experience includes primary and secondary schools, charities, crisis support and private practice. I’ve supported children, teenagers and young adults with anxiety, low mood, anger, grief, family stress, trauma, self-esteem, identity concerns and others.
Whether you’re seeking help for your child or yourself, I offer a compassionate, collaborative space where healing and growth are possible.
Practice description
I offer face-to-face counselling from a quiet, welcoming room at The Village Surgery in Cramlington. It is a safe, confidential space where children, young people and adults can feel respected and supported.
I work with a wide range of difficulties, including but not limited to anxiety, low mood, trauma, bereavement, identity concerns, relationship challenges and family stress. My focus is on helping children and young people find creative, safe ways to express themselves, build resilience and develop strengths that will support them beyond therapy. With younger children, therapy often happens through play and other creative activities that feel natural to them. For teenagers, I blend creative methods with talking therapy to support reflection and help make sense of their experiences in a way that feels manageable.
Parents and carers play a vital role in a child’s wellbeing, and I believe it is important they feel supported too. I offer sessions for parents and carers to explore current challenges related to parenting and family life.
Sessions are usually weekly and can be short or long term, depending on what feels most helpful.
Therapy is not just about managing symptoms. It is about supporting lasting change through understanding, self-acceptance and resilience.
My first session
Before we begin, I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, get a sense of how I work and decide whether it feels like the right fit.
When working with children and young people, I usually begin with a session for parents or carers only, where possible. This gives us the chance to explore the child’s needs, talk through relevant background and think together about how best to support them. All following sessions are one-to-one with the child or young person, giving them a safe and private space of their own. Where appropriate, I can offer review sessions with parents to reflect on progress and consider next steps together.
For adults, the first session is a chance to begin exploring what has brought you to therapy and what you are hoping for. I will ask some gentle questions to help us understand your goals and how we might work together.
If you or your child have any specific needs or preferences, I welcome you to share them. Therapy should feel accessible, inclusive and shaped around what helps you feel at ease.
