About me and my therapy practice

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to visit my profile. My name is Jake Alexander. I am a qualified, Â鶹ԭ´´-registered person-centred humanistic counsellor offering a safe, supportive, and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

I work primarily from a person-centred foundation, which means that I believe in your innate capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding. The heart of my practice is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. I aim to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel genuinely heard, respected, and accepted, just as you are. Whether you're navigating a particular life challenge, working through complex emotions, or simply seeking to know yourself more deeply, I am here to support you on that journey.

My core training is in person-centred counselling, which is based on the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Rather than offering advice or solutions, I work with you collaboratively, helping you explore your experiences and feelings in a way that can lead to greater clarity, emotional freedom, and resilience. In addition to my person-centred foundation, I draw on elements of integrative counselling and motivational interviewing when appropriate. This allows me to be flexible in my approach and responsive to your individual needs. If it feels right for you, we can bring in techniques that help with specific goals, such as building motivation for change, enhancing self-compassion, or developing healthier coping strategies. Our work together is always guided by your pace and priorities. My goal is to help you feel empowered in your process, whether that means gaining insight into long-standing issues, improving your relationships, processing grief or trauma, or managing anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem.

Practice description

I welcome clients from all backgrounds, identities, and walks of life, and I bring a non-judgmental, inclusive attitude to every session. I recognise that life can present different challenges depending on our unique experiences, including cultural, social, or personal factors. I strive to create a space where all of these can be safely explored. I offer both short-term and long-term counselling, depending on your needs. Some people come to counselling with a specific issue they’d like to work through, while others seek ongoing support as they navigate deeper or more complex experiences. I respect and honour both approaches.

i have worked alongside individuals from a wide variety of circumstances, including those experiencing mental health difficulties, neurodiversity, alcohol and substance misuse, homelessness, and long-term physical health conditions.

My work background and lived experiences alongside my personal therapeutic journey has shaped me into a grounded, compassionate, and attentive practitioner who values each person’s unique story. I understand how important it is to feel safe and understood, and I hold that responsibility with care.

I bring over 15 years of experience working in health and social care into my counselling practice. This background has given me a deep understanding of the many ways life can impact our mental and emotional wellbeing, from chronic illness and disability to systemic pressures, to the everyday challenges of living in a fast-paced world. I also have a background in the arts industry and open to working with artists, performers and stand up comedians.
