About me and my therapy practice
I’m James, a counsellor based in Chester and Snowdonia. I cover the Chester area and North Wales face to face and all of the UK online and over the phone. I am a qualified and insured counsellor and a registered member of the Â鶹Դ´ (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), working within established ethical frameworks.
My work is rooted in the belief that every person deserves a safe space to explore their thoughts and feelings. It can feel very daunting to begin to talk about what is causing you difficulties, especially to a stranger so I will endeavour to do everything I can to make you feel comfortable if you choose to start your journey with me.
I work with people from a wide range of backgrounds. Areas of experience and speciality include:
Anxiety, depression, stress and illness, work related issues, trauma, low self-worth, relationship and family difficulties, neurodivergence including autism, ADHD, long-term health challenges and caring responsibilities, life transitions, discrimination and experiences of loss, loneliness and bereavement, spirituality, self esteem.
I offer a non-judgmental environment to delve into what has brought you to therapy in order that we can collaboratively work towards your aims and goals. Life can be difficult and at times overwhelming. You do not need to face these challenges alone. Counselling is an opportunity to reflect, gain perspective, and develop new ways of understanding yourself. Together we will move at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you.
Practice description
I am a fully qualified counsellor and work primarily within a CBT and Person-Centred framework, placing the therapeutic relationship at the centre of our work together. This is a collaborative process where trust, openness, and reflection allow for personal growth and change. Our sessions provide space to explore experiences, thoughts, and emotions without judgement. Whether you come with clear goals or uncertainty about where to begin, the focus will always be on what you need at that time. I also draw on creative and educational approaches when helpful, adapting to support your individual way of working.
My first session
Choosing a counsellor is an important decision. To help you decide if my approach is right for you, I offer a free 20-minute consultation. This can take place by phone or online, whichever you prefer.
This is a chance for us to get to know one another and for me to understand the support you are looking for, a chance for you to ask questions should you have any, share a little about what’s on your mind and what you would like to overcome and achieve, or simply see how I work. If you’re not sure what to say, that’s fine, I’ll guide the conversation so you feel at ease.
If you would like to proceed, we can then agree on an approach that is tailored to your needs, preferences and goals.
