About me and my therapy practice

I am an open-minded and warm-hearted counsellor. I work from my garden therapy room in Beverley and online. I am welcoming to clients from all backgrounds, genders and sexualities.

I provide daytime counselling for people aged 16+. I specialise in Neurodiversity, Attachment Trauma, Perinatal and Postnatal mental health and those adapting to major life changes, for example; bereavement, becoming a parent, coming to terms with a medical diagnosis, divorce, redundancy or retirement.

My clients tell me that they enjoy coming to their sessions, they find me to be a calming presence, they feel comfortable opening up to me and they enjoy my sense of humour as it makes counselling feel like a human and warm encounter. I bring my own lived experience to counselling as I have personal experience of complex families, parenting and neurodiversity. I have had my own therapy and appreciate the difference that it can make to your life.

Practice description

I work as an Integrative counsellor, meaning that I draw on lots of different approaches and I adapt my way of working to suit each client and best meet their needs. I am trauma-informed; you are in control of the content of the sessions. I work at your speed; you do not have to talk about anything that you don’t want to. I will not tell you what to do, as I believe that you know and understand yourself better than anyone else.

I often find that clients have had their struggles minimised and dismissed by themselves and others. Having counselling may be the first time that you acknowledge the pain of what you have gone through. I can help you understand how you have adapted to fit in with the world around you and help you to move forward in more healthy ways.

I have had success working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, sexual trauma, relational trauma, divorce, domestic abuse, emotional abuse, sight loss, physical disabilities, loss of identity and neurodiversity. I have experience volunteering for several organisations, including Mind, Mysight, Rhema and The Samaritans.

I have worked in both the private and public sectors: in Adult Social Care as an Occupational Therapy Assistant supporting people with long-term disabilities or nearing end of life, and I have worked with families and their babies, running classes in the community.
