About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Vince. I’m a Â鶹Դ´ registered Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in Staffordshire. I work with adults and Young People aged between 18 to 24.
My counselling practice welcomes anyone. You don't need to have specific life experiences or fit any criteria. Nor do you need to have prior had experience of counselling. I work with people from all walks of life and I will welcome you for who you are.
I can help you with things like:
- Anxiety, depression and low mood
- Life changes - new beginnings, endings, bereavement and grief
- Self-worth, self-empathy and inner critic
- Neurodiversity - supporting mental health diagnoses and self-diagnosis
- Job related changes, career pressure and professional self-doubt
- Relationships, boundaries and changes in family circumstances
- Early life experiences that are still bothering you
- Creative difficulties
- You’re looking to find balance and feel more ‘you’ again
My particular professional interests are in the following themes:
- Neurodiversity
- Individuality and diversity
- Generational trauma and unresolved early life experiences
- Young persons’ wellbeing
- Men’s mental health
- Employment and career related challenges
Whilst there can be specific life events that bring someone to counselling (for example a bereavement or job loss) it is more often a combination of life events that prompts people to seek assistance. Every person’s journey is unique and so my aim is to co-create with you an accepting and supportive therapeutic relationship as a base from which we can explore those aspects of your life which are most meaningful for you. To help you to achieve your counselling goals.
I Know that reaching out for help is hard and can go against what you have learnt. I will support you at every step. From your initial contact, through being with you on your counselling journey and until such time that you decide to end counselling.
I look forward to working with you.
Practice description
I am an integrative practitioner which means that I combine a number of therapeutic approaches in my work with clients. I will meet you with empathy and respect whilst we explore together how life events, past relationships and emotional patterns may be shaping your present here-and-now experiences. Together, we will co-create a space in which you can feel safe to explore how you understand your inner world. Whatever you are experiencing my role is to be alongside you. Not as an expert with all the answers but as a fellow human committed to supporting you in making sense of your experiences.
My practice is informed by three interconnected modalities: the Person-Centred approach, Psychodynamic theory and Attachment theory.
The Person-Centred Approach
At the heart of my approach is a deep respect for your autonomy and inner wisdom. Person-centred therapy is built on the belief that you are the expert in your own life. I offer a warm, non-judgmental presence, where empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard create the conditions for you to feel truly heard and understood.
Psychodynamic Theory
Alongside this, I draw from psychodynamic theory to help you explore how past experiences - especially early relationships - may influence your current feelings, emotions, and behaviours. This modality invites gentle reflection on unconscious processes and internal conflicts, offering insight into the roots of distress and the possibility for meaningful change.
Attachment Theory
Attachment Theory deepens this understanding by exploring how our earliest bonds - often with caregivers - shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. These patterns can influence how we form relationships, manage intimacy, and respond to emotional needs. During our sessions we may notice how your attachment styles manifest themselves in your life today, and we can work together to foster more secure and connected ways of being.
My first session
I will spend some time introducing myself and explaining how I work. We’ll also spend some time talking about your history, your reasons for coming to counselling and your counselling goals. You may not think of everything and that is okay. Counselling is an evolving process and most people become aware of new themes during the counselling process. We’ll then agree on the way that we will work together. Some of this is necessarily quite formal so please feel free to ask any questions at any stage.
Every counselling session is unique. However, in each of our meetings we will work together towards your goals. What you want to bring may vary between sessions and may depend upon how you are feeling or what has happened in your life. A session might include things like:
- What is happening in your life in the present
- Your meaningful relationships
- Work colleagues and friendships
- Your feelings, behaviours and emotions
- Things you are currently struggling with
- Past life events and your childhood
You can decide what feels most helpful and I will work with you in an empathetic and non-judgmental way.
