About me and my therapy practice
When we fall into 'psychological distress' and overwhelm there can be a myriad of reasons why. My specialism is working with adults who identify some of their issues as coming from one of life's most essential questions: who am I?
I began my journey as an integrative therapist during covid lockdowns after a long career in the film and television industry. I trained initially as a form of self development but the more training I wanted to do.
I use a client first and often challenging approach. I tend to prefer to focus on clients feelings in the "here and now鈥, but I regularly work across other popular forms of therapy including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy and coaching methods.
The metaphor I often use in therapy is 'exploration'. The process can be like an archeological dig. Uncovering truth and meaning can be difficult and challenging, but my job is to guide you to do it safely and at the pace which is right for you. During this process we tend to oscillate between issues experienced both at surface level, and at depth, and we will either move backwards towards past issued or forwards towards a more goal orientated future. Either way, my aim is to create long lasting change and growth.
Sometimes we will hit up against hard places to pass in our exploration - the mind is very complex and wants to defend the status quo. This will challenge us find other ways to make progress. In such cases we may use a range of non-intellectual methods influenced by psychotherapy. These include repairing the "inner child", exposure therapy and meditative practices.
Practice description
Besides identity issues, 鈥嬧婭 have experience working with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, addiction, neurodiversity, issues related to workplace stress, relationship problems, life transitions and attitudes to food (binge or comfort eating). I have also experience with relatives of survivors of abuse, and guilt and shame associated with these.
My approach is foregrounded by kindness, to yourself and each other. I bring together elements of body based (somatic) psychotherapy鈥, psychodynamic therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I will ground this in neuroscience, mindfulness and art work.鈥
I offer in person sessions in Lewisham from Monday to Friday. I also offer online sessions, conducted via Google Meet.
I have a PGDip from the University of East London, Integrative Counselling and Coaching.
