About me and my therapy practice
I am an ‘integrative’ counsellor/psychotherapist, trained to use a framework that considers you as a whole person. I hold to a belief that every human has a basic need for relationship and it is in the context of relationship that we become who we are. I am passionate about restoration and reconciliation of healthy relationship to ourselves, to something greater than ourselves, the world and to one another. I consider this to be how healing and growth occurs.
I work in an open-ended, relational manner drawing on 4 counselling approaches that will be tailored to your specific needs. With this approach, the sessions are led by what you bring to be explored together. An ending will emerge naturally as we work and will be collaboratively implemented to support consolidation of what has taken place within our time together.
If you require short-term counselling, my approach will be more directive, working towards block-bookings of 6 weeks at a time.
I have a 2:1 BA(hons) in 'Theology and Counselling' with 2 years in placement. As such, the theory that underpins my work incorporates psychodynamic, Gestalt, CBT and person-centred. One way to frame this is that it offers flexibility to move between the present, the past, thinking and feeling to bring together a 'whole' in the context of a warm, trusting and caring relationship where your choices are respected.
Practice description
Hi. I am Debbie. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you. I aim to provide a safe space for you to bring whatever it is that has brought you to seek psychotherapy/counselling.
The way we work will be shaped by what you bring and how our sessions develop. If agreed to be helpful, creative approaches may be drawn upon, including use of relaxation techniques and bodily movements.
My first session
When you first make contact with me, I offer a free 15 minute telephone conversation to establish whether my services and your needs match.
During this conversation, I will take a note of your contact details.
If you decide to go ahead, I will send you an agreement to be read, signed and dated along with my privacy notice to be read.
If you decide not to pursue, your contact details will be destroyed and erased within 14 days of contact.
During our first session, we will explore further what has brought you to this point and agree how we will be working together. This session is your opportunity to ask questions about how I work, the process and any other concerns that may have arisen around the contract and privacy notice.
