About me and my therapy practice
Do you want to get more out of life, find ways to stop feeling overwhelmed, or facing big life changes? Wondering if counselling and talk therapy might be the key?
In simple terms, therapy works. In a safe and nurturing place, with the support of a trained professional, it is possible for you to find healing and reconciliation in difficult times. Counselling and psychotherapy have been truly transformative when I have faced overwhelming experiences in my own life, which is a very human reason I encourage others to experience counselling for themselves.
It is a privilege to walk alongside people and support them in creating meaningful change. The trust they place in me is something I value deeply.
I will support you in a compassionate way to use psychotherapy to find your unique strengths, to help you make sense of what is happening in your life and find a way forward. There are a variety of approaches to the way therapists work with their clients, but one thing all effective therapy shares, and what I can provide for you is a confidential, warm, non-judgemental, supportive relationship.
As a pluralistic therapist I can introduce a wide range of different approaches you can try, and I will customise your therapy around your choices, interests, and what works best for you. I offer online, face to face and walk and talk therapy in west Aberdeenshire, and cover Aberdeen. If you are interested in finding out more about how I work, message me for a free 20 minute introductory video call.
Practice description
Every journey is unique, and therapy is about finding what works best for you. We’ll move at your pace, exploring and processing your thoughts and feelings in a safe, supportive space.
I offer an initial free phone or video call so we can speak about how I can best help you and arrange booking details.
Sessions last 50 minutes and can be:
- Online sessions - We will meet via a secure online platform, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your own space. I’ll send you a private secure link ahead of each session. All you need is a quiet, private area and a stable internet connection.
- In person sessions - I offer in-person therapy sessions at a welcoming in the heart of Aberdeen city centre. Meeting face-to-face can create a deeper sense of connection and trust, helping you feel more grounded and supported.
- Walk-and-talk - Walk and talk sessions take place in quiet parks or trails in Deeside and Donside, Aberdeenshire. As a trained Health Walk Leader, I assess each route to ensure it’s safe and suitable. Walking side-by-side in nature can ease anxiety and offer a calming space to process thoughts. We will decide on the most suitable location for you, after an initial online or phone appointment to confirm the meeting arrangements.
I provide both short and long-term therapy and we will discuss the planned duration of our work together during our initial session. Each therapy session will last 50 minutes, and if you prefer there may be activities to complete on your own outside of sessions, for example journaling, reading, watching video or audio links, or completing a mood diary.
Every few weeks we will review progress and determine if you feel the therapy is helpful to you, and if any further work is necessary. I will see you on a weekly or fortnightly basis, at a time agreed between us.
My first session
In your first session, we’ll discuss what brought you to counselling, any previous experiences you may have had and what your preferences are in our work together so that I can tailor the therapy to your needs.
We will confirm your details, confidentiality, go through how I store your information, and I will invite you to complete a short assessment form.
You can ask any questions about the counselling process, or what you might expect.
