About me and my therapy practice
I am a Play and Creative Arts Therapist working with children and young people aged 4 to 18. I am trauma-informed and client-focused, meeting each child or young person exactly where they are and offering acceptance without judgement. My work is grounded in the belief that every individual has their own pace, strengths, and ways of communicating.
Using play and creative arts as my primary therapeutic media, I take a bottom-up approach, working with the nervous system and subconscious rather than relying solely on verbal expression. This approach supports regulation, safety, and emotional processing, particularly for children and young people who may find talking difficult.
I integrate a range of creative and sensory resources, including art materials, small world figures, sand trays, symbols, music, and puppetry, to create a safe, non-threatening space where clients can explore experiences, emotions, and relationships.
Play and creative arts therapy can support a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, emotional regulation and anger, peer and family relationship challenges, identity exploration, and grief.
I practise in a setting close to nature, drawing on its calming and restorative qualities to support the therapeutic process. Please feel welcome to get in touch to arrange a no-obligation introductory call
Practice description
I use play and creative arts therapy alongside talk therapy to support children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Play is the natural language of children, and this theory-based approach allows them to express thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to put into words.
My practice is trauma-informed and grounded in a bottom-up approach, meaning that sessions focus first on safety, regulation, and the nervous system rather than cognition alone. Therapy is always paced by the client, ensuring sessions feel contained, predictable, and emotionally safe.
I work with each child or young person as the individual they are, creating inclusive and accepting spaces where they can feel seen, heard, and understood. Through play and creative arts, we gently support the calming of the nervous system, allowing space for healing, growth, and meaningful connection.
My aim is not to 鈥渇ix鈥 a child, but to support them in reconnecting with their authentic selves and gently releasing protective behaviours or coping strategies that may no longer serve them. I work collaboratively with families to ensure the best outcomes, offering parent sessions, child鈥損arent sessions, or parent support where appropriate.
My first session
The first session is an introductory meeting, giving the child or young person time to get to know me and become familiar with the therapy space. The will have time to explore the space and answer any questions. Sessions are client-led, allowing the child or young person to explore at their own pace while feeling safe and contained.
Prior to starting therapy, a questionnaire and initial information form will be completed by the parent or carer (or by the young person themselves, if age appropriate). This helps me gain an understanding of their needs and how best to support them.
We will also have regular review points, working in partnership with families to reflect on progress and ensure the therapy continues to meet the needs of the child or young person.
