About me and my therapy practice
Life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, and reaching out for support is not always easy, especially if you have experienced past hurt, loss, or trauma. I understand how difficult it can be to speak openly about relationships, family issues, long-held feelings, or times when life has not unfolded as you had hoped.
You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, or uncertainty, and noticing the impact this is having on you emotionally, physically, or spiritually.
Counselling provides a space where you feel safe, respected, and able to move at your own pace to talk about what's important to you without loved ones ideas of how you should be or what they think you should do.
I offer a warm, supportive, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. My aim is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected, and accepted without judgement.
I will listen carefully and work alongside you to help you explore what is happening in your life, understand your experiences more deeply, and discover your own strengths and ways forward.
Counselling can offer a space to reflect, gain clarity, and develop greater self-understanding. Together we can work towards helping you feel more confident in yourself, your relationships, and the choices you make.
Practice description
We begin by exploring what has brought you to counselling, whether that involves reflecting on past experiences, focusing on present-day challenges, or a combination of both. Our work will be guided by your needs, with an emphasis on choice, collaboration, and helping you develop a greater sense of understanding, stability, and self-compassion.
I believe deeply in the importance of being heard, believed, and understood. My aim is to offer a therapeutic relationship where you feel valued, supported, and accepted without judgement.
With over 20 years’ experience working in the public sector, including experience with Mind, I bring a compassionate, trauma-aware, and client-centred approach to my practice. I recognise the courage it takes to seek support and view counselling as a collaborative process that honours your strengths as well as your experiences.
I am an integrative counsellor, drawing on Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Compassion Focused, and Existential approaches. This means I tailor our work to you as an individual, offering professional talking therapy that respects your needs, values, and readiness for change.
You may feel unsure about starting counselling, and that is completely understandable. Taking the first step can feel difficult, but you do not have to face things alone. If you feel that working together might be helpful, you are welcome to get in touch. .
My first session
We can arrange an initial conversation to see whether counselling with me feels like the right fit. I offer a free 15–20 minute telephone consultation to answer any questions you may have about counselling or the way I work. This also gives us the opportunity to get a sense of each other and see whether working together feels right for you.
In the first session, we will explore how we might work together and I will answer any questions you have. This initial meeting is a chance to see whether we are a good fit, and you can then decide, without any pressure, if you would like to continue.
Therapy is about finding a way of working together that suits you, at your own pace. It provides a safe space to explore your experiences, develop your strengths and resilience, and support positive change, with the aim of helping you feel more confident, empowered, and fulfilled.
