About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Tara.

I understand that coming to see a counsellor is a big step, and I want to help you feel more at ease.

As a person I am genuine, calm and down to earth, and have had many of my own good and bad experiences throughout my life, so believe I bring a deep empathy and understanding of the difficulties and confusion that life brings.

Maybe you feel confused or overwhelmed? Do you feel stuck in a situation? Maybe you feel unhappy or not yourself and don't know why? Do you have thoughts of not feeling good enough?

I believe counselling can support you in healing from difficult experiences. As a person centred counsellor, I aim to work with you to build a trusting therapeutic relationship so you feel comfortable to talk openly, without fear of criticism, to explore and uncover any underlying feelings or reasons for any changes in mood or thinking. I can offer a safe, confidential space where you will lead at a pace that feels right for you, and where you are valued and accepted just as you are. In this non-directive way, exploring and gaining a deeper understanding of yourself, we can promote personal growth, compassion and self-acceptance, leading to an increased sense of well-being and progress in many areas of life.

I have over 20 years experience, working in the NHS with parents/carers and neurodivergent children. I have lived experience both through work and personally of ADHD and Autism, so have an understanding of the unique joys and challenges for parents, and explore this with care and compassion.

I know it may be hard to start counselling, and maybe you don’t know what to expect? You are not alone. It is important you feel comfortable with the counsellor you have chosen.

Practice description

I run a private practice, offering counselling online and also by phone. 

I provide a professional, confidential and safe space to work with you to support on a range of difficulties, including:

Anxiety and depression.

Improving confidence and self-esteem.

Understanding and coping with peri- and menopause.

Relationship problems.

Stress related difficulties.

While I work with a wide range of difficulties, I'm especially passionate about fostering compassion and acceptance through therapy.

I believe it is important for me to be reflective and self-aware to understand my own strengths and imperfections too, in order to provide the best therapy I can that helps clients on their journey of self-worth.

I provide both short and long term counselling.

Please note, I work part-time and aim to respond to any messages with 24 hours.

My first session

I am a fully qualified counsellor trained in the person-centred approach, so it's not my job tell you what to do, however it is my job to ensure you feel comfortable enough to talk to me, and I will work with you to explore your own path at your pace. 

The first session will be your opportunity to discover if you feel comfortable and connected, as it's important that you find the therapist that is the best fit for you, and it will be the foundation for building a safe, genuine space of trust and respect for future sessions. 

It may feel overwhelming, however it's ok to ask questions, and I aim to ensure you feel empowered and at ease during our sessions together.
