About me and my therapy practice

Hi there! I'm Dan (he/him), a counsellor/psychotherapist offering face-to-face session in Peckham, as well as online.

I provide a welcoming, trauma-informed safe space for people from diverse backgrounds and experiences, meeting you with warmth, empathy, sensitivity, and respect 鈥 regardless of your age, heritage, sexuality, gender identity or neurodiversity.

I work integratively, using person-centred & psychodynamic theories for us to look at what's going on in your life at the moment, as well as looking to your past to see how it may be impacting on you today and keeping you "stuck", in order to relieve your symptoms and create lasting change for you. Depending on the circumstances, I may also draw from CBT & REBT theories. I鈥檓 a compassionate and relational therapist and I use the different facets of the relationship between myself and my clients for the therapy.

I support clients with a range of concerns, including:

Anxiety

Depression & feeling sad

Low self-esteem & low self-confidence

Sham & Toxic Shame

Drug Addiction & Alcoholism

Stress

Bereavement & loss

Loneliness

Anger management

LGBTQ+ counselling

Social Anxiety

Perfectionism

Sex addiction

Gambling addiction

Shopping addiction

Boarding school syndrome

I identify as Queer/Gay and have a personal history of addiction, as well as the experience of long-term recovery. I was born and raised in the UK, though also spent 13 years in the US, from the age of 23. As well as being a therapist, I'm also an artist/craftsperson.

I have come to believe that happiness, connection to self and peace of mind can be achieved when we allow ourselves to heal the wounding from our past. For me, therapy is a journey to the deeper part of ourselves (that some may refer to as the 鈥渟oul鈥) 鈥 to recover and restore our authentic selves. If we merely address the surface without looking at what lies underneath, we risk repeating the same painful life patterns over and over again.

Practice description

I offer a complimentary phone call, during which time I will ask you about has brought you to therapy, previous experiences of therapy (if any) and what you hope to gain from therapy. There will be plenty of space for you to ask any questions you have about the therapeutic process with me and what working together might look like. This 20-minute session is an opportunity for both of us to decide whether we feel comfortable and well-suited to work together. There is no fee for this initial consultation, and no obligation to continue if it does not feel like the right fit.

Sessions last 50 minutes and each week you will be invited to discuss whatever feels most important to you - for example current feelings, a recent experience or recurring pattern in relationships. I will listen closely and will ask questions to help deepen our exploration and to create a space that feels non-judgmental and safe for you to share. Our journey is set by you, by what you bring to the sessions and how you want to use them.

Over time, by bringing awareness to patterns in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, we will start to make meaning of what is going on. As we engage in this process, any patterns or issues that may be holding you back will subtly emerge in our interactions and our relationship. This will create movement in how you feel and open space for new ways of navigating relationships and life in general. This offers a unique and safe opportunity to explore these dynamics together with care and respect.

We will do regular reviews to see how things are going, and to see if you want to continue working on what brought you to therapy - whether that鈥檚 because you鈥檇 like to explore other areas, or you feel it鈥檚 time to work towards an ending.

If you are curious to learn more or want to book a consultation, please reach out via email, WhatsApp, or text. I aim to respond quickly to enquiries and will generally contact you on the same/next day.
